But if $10 goes to $9, one loses 5k on that trade  even thou the  margin amount required  to purchase 5 lots of ocbc  is  only 5k not 50k unlike cash a/c. However, one will still win or lose the fully amount as if on cash a/c because cfd is a leveraged instrument, that's it.

hmm...noble back to 1.99 now. Can buy or not ec, juicy?

furthermore sti seems like cannot make up its mind whether to stay above 3000 or go down to 2900....

i should be waiting for clearer signals before buying.... also i don't have the knack of buying at lowest..... perhaps our icetomato expert advice  would be better :D

Its just like shares trading but what I understand is you should have at least a margin of 20% on all your opened contracts. (iPunter guru's advise is to aim for 50%)

Remember your 20% margin includes fees, finance interest and its updated everyday and you don't own the shares. Your opened contracts are also renewed every month for a fee.

Recently many contracts had to be closed because of corporate actions e.g. Jaya Holdings, Global Investment.

Anyway I am still reading up on CFD, please correct me if I am wrong

if you buy 5 lots of OCBC at $9 and it goes to $10....

your profit would be 5000 x ($10-$9) = $5000

epliew      ( Date: 24-Feb-2011 11:09) Posted:

just question CFD, if i want to buy ocbc now....

eg. 9 dollars. and when it move to 10 dollars.  the profit is based on 1 dollar profit or 10 percent of increase

Been reading up about CFD's.

Don't be in a hurry to use them, read carefully and understand CFD's before using them. Know where its weaknesses and strengths are and how they can have an effect on you. From there you can roughly figure out how you can best use them to compliment your style

Good luck

Once in a while, we can see in the newpapers about 'share rigging' in various forms.

But these are usually isolate cases which are dealt with by the regulating authorities.

But by and large, trading itself, be it individual or pooled resources, are part

and parcel of market activity. And different people/groups can have

different trading styles and techniques of playing.

This is why the market is so challenging... Smiley

depends on your equity/capital in your cfd account.

example. if you have $1,000 deposited in your cfd account.

short 1 lot of sembmar at 5.21.... your balance capital would be $1000-(10% x 1,000 x 5.21) = 479

today sembmar at 5.31, your balance capital would be 479 - [1000 x (5.31-5.21)] = 379

still do not need to top up because your capital is still not 0. once hits 0, then need to top up.

please correct me if i'm wrong......
