Looks like the stock market is foretelling bad times are ahead by it's sustained downtrend...

Does the market ever lie at all?

I should think not... the market itself is the most reliable indicator... Smiley

Agreed with fairygal that not that accurate in D.J future index.... I suppose the unexpected rate cut yesterday by FED will at least boost some investors confidence to get into the market today, however the sentiment around the world market are really weak till i dun even dare to bet my last 2 dollars... still holding to the last 2 bucks and watch for clear indications and indicators to place it... Hope all still vested in stocks will tahan till this period is over.... cheers

Frankly, last Friday's DOW index was one interesting one, swinging in range within a few mins, not for those with hypertension. Think tonight will be another exciting one to watch. I noticed that the futures are not as accurate under such market conditions.

If the Dow rallies 300 pts tonight, you can bet your bottom two dollars that it will be another rare

opportunity to sell on the great strength...

But only bet 2 dollars (don't bet your underwear too...)... hehehe...  Smiley

When STI closed, most EU markets saw 3 digit's losses. No fund leow. Nonetheless, this is not the end of the world. You may see some light in the dark at DJ tonite. Cheers.

gosh* ...Nikkei is following DOW footsteps in closing below the 12,000 level ...what a sharp drop ...HSI worst with 4.87% drop....the region is in the red...bright red...

US Futures still in the 3 digit red now...never expected today to be this red as thought probably traders all over will be anticipating a rally for rate cuts and so will buy up in the afternoon....now...darnz*

Ya, I think it is really bad........ expect STI to drop further

0640 GMT [Dow Jones] STI continues to pare losses in afternoon session as cheap valuations limit selldown; index down 1.2% at 2804.63 vs morning low of 2745.96. "There comes a point where things just look too cheap to keep selling," says dealer at local house. But negative nod from U.S. pre-market futures, sharp falls for other regional indexes means trade likely to remain choppy. DBS Vickers strategist Yeo Kee Yan warns trend remains negative; "while minor oversold bounces do occur, it''s still a sell-into-strength market." Says STI has downward bias to 2530-2650, advises investors to stick with defensive stocks. Volume remains low; losers outnumber gainers roughly 4 to 1 in broader market. (KIG)

i just saw on the streaming news from Saxo:

Equity News: CITIC to cancel Bear Sterns investment, CITIC Group says.

although i don't really interpret what they are talking about...but i see the two words "cancel investment" ...tt certainly don't sound good at all

STI keeps trying a couple of times today to hit above 2800 but been dragged down by the 'gravitational' force...

At this moment, HSI and Shanghai Index are still quite bad. Though STI had gain some ground over the last hr, later STI may be pulled down by HSI n SHI, if they dip further. Be alert, esp around 1600hrs, EU market opens.

what will happen tonight or tomorrow...we never know...if unclear, always safer to protect money by staying away first...there are still people buying up in anticipation that market will cheong when the Fed announce the rate cuts...but most of us already know this...and its priced in....

what we do not know is how terrible the earnings might be announced for this week...its a question mark "?" ...should there be a rally from the expected rate cuts...people will likely to sell...but if the Fed surprise/shock us with rate cuts that is lower than market expectations...then....

saw at noon time our STI spur up a steep gradient upwards...then many retail buyers just buy in...

the STI hit the support-turned-resistance of 2800 region and fell back a bit...we shall see the ongoings soon after lunch break

It may recover some ground after lunch. My view as either FED will announce rate cut inadvance or tomorrow nite. Thats will give some kick on DJ as well as global markets, but the rally will not last long.

Take care leow, cheers.
