nice to have see our STI cross 3000 for the third time this week...any views on this if it is really really due to the window dressing acts that is pushing it past this level and closing these few days near this region

the sti market seems to hold on well, and with dow futures hovering in + and - mode, in fact i'm quite worried. with gold and oil creeping up, dollars bowing down, we are walking on thin line. the market could tumble anytime... just a thought and i hope i'm wrong.

Do spend a brief moment reflecting on the truth of what I said earlier about trend.

I believe this will turn out to be valuable.

would have to agree with ipunter on this, actually.

that's why i'd choose to play only warrants at pivot points, and stocks within the trend--meaning, after the event (the turning point) has occurred, then i'd play stocks.

ie, for stocks, play an uptrend within an uptrend. (short up on a long  up, rather than short up on a long down).

This is to maximise benefit.

Rule of thumb tho: because it is speculative action, one has to cut as fast as possible if the direction proves otherwise from your expected one.

Will also say tho, that many have their own ways of playing; and neither's right nor wrong. As long as one makes money. That is all that matters.

stupidfool: long term players do make money; but this is not the time yet for them. In a volatile market, it is traders who make the most, because it is volatility which we thrive on. Longterm investors are after stable, slow growth. That's not for this current market.

As I had posted in an earlier post, a trend is clear only after the event.

That is to say, when a trend is apparent, it already may reverse any moment.

Thus, a 'trend' must be pre-empted by speculative action.

Not qualify to give advise but just sharing:

Due to the present volatile/uncertain mkt, may be more risky to keep LONG.

From all the experts, incl, ipunter, cashiertan, elf, sporegal,it seems the oni way to make $$$ from the sharemarket is by trading and speculating. And not to hold long, lonnnnnng type.

Not just trading but also must know TA.

Is this the only way to make $$$ from the share market, please advise cos i am not so clever.

I beg to differ. The stock market is not constant. What goes up must come down and vice versa. I wait for support level to take position and sell on resistant level. Can make some coffee money like that if concentrate on just 2 to 3 stocks maximum. Just don't be too greedy.

who cares abt events? just trade according to your plan.

if you are just speculating on the direction or events. you are nothing more than a punter.

depending on your luck, nothing else. and your chance of winning is always below 49% just like in casino. (excluding your luck factor)
