You're right, it make no sense, unless Sgp economy/stock market  really decouple from the US which remain to be seem. Personally, I felt its just window dressing in play, thus be careful!

Bear Stearns, Sub-Prime, UBS Bank, Wall st, Japanese Yen, high oil price,  poorer retail Sales, consumer confident, high property price, lower interest rate by FED. FED injecting more $$$, so is GIC / Temasek, so is Bank of England and so many.....

STI is not ready to climb yet, will just be following....

STI is under pressure to perform, however it has to take profit for those who bot last week, it is not ready to clmb to higher height yet. Short term still very volatile, just have to trade with care.

Due to so much uncertainties, short term or hit n run are still the best strategy. I guess, 31 gonna to be a good day for Long rather than Short, my view.

BT :

The STI went up due to hedge funds going from defensive to beta stocks

When they find no body follow them, their plan will fail

Don't carry the baby after 31st

See if the STI will breach 3000 level again....noticed the bullishness or window dressing did not drive the market up too much...probably worry they will carry the baby as many unload this time round as uncertainties still hold...

Not just window dressing. Also short covering. I believe many shortists are covering back. These are pushing prices even higher.

DOW slowly giving up all its gains

Rate cut weakening

Lets see STI can still go up again and again

Next week we will all know

Whether it is window dressing or bargain hunting

There are junk stocks and healthy stocks among China stocks. The heavy selldowns could be in anticipation of the many challenges facing businesses in China and possibly more draconian measures by Premier Wen to rein in inflations.

Like whether a cup is half-ful or half-empty, the heavy selldowns could be opportunities for those brave enough to pick up bargains. Warren Buffett said: He likes it best when market is sold down irrationally. That is when he feels like an oversexed person... can't have enough ...

But you got a point about that window dressing thingy... nex week could be unnerving again for traders/investors.

agreed with cyjerry. like to add few points -

1. today is friday, most players don't quite like to carry babies over weekend unless cash loaded or high risk taker.

2. DOW down 2 conservative night  but STI still manage to cheong. heng ah not red.

3. probia also one of the factor causing STI flat today. watch out for today DOW, if down with red here come monday maybe bloody day for STI but i doubt so  (DOW 2 days red already). don't trust DOW future too much it just a guideline.

just my 2cents...good luck
