SINGAPORE - Shares of Contel Corp , a Singapore-listed Chinese digital media products maker, rose as much as 50 percent on Friday after it said it will be taken over by AuzMinerals Resource Group via a $1.2 billion reverse takeover.
At 0133 GMT, Contel shares were up 33 percent at S$0.04 on a volume of 21.4 million shares.
Contel said on Thursday that it will buy 95 million ordinary shares in Solar Silicon Resources, a unit of AuzMinerals, by issuing 3.09 billion consolidated new Contel shares at S$0.505 each.
The move will result in AuzMinerals controlling more than 79 percent of Contel.
Solar Silicon supplies silica from its mines in Australia to solar panel manufacturers.
