agree with smartbear. it's the people's money they're playing with--OUR money. Same with GIC. notice how after they lost money in MS and all, they are just oh-so-quiet?

whatever happened to accountability? How much of their so-called profit is in fact income from our CPF and all--steady revenue--rather than investment profits?

A$400mil was invested in the ABC childcare centre in aussieland. Temasek bought at about $7.30. Before suspension, the shares were trading at 54c. how much of our money was lost? You go do the maths.

As for ML investment: let's face it: temasek was only lucky that BoA bought them out. GIC wasn't so lucky with its stake in MS.

And this is just it: why are we paying our scholars so much, that we "peg their salaries to the highest CEO pay package so as to be competitive"---yet CEOs can be fired, but scholars, never? Even CEOs have performance reviews. 1.9mil is the ministerial salary. up from previous years' 1.2mil. I say if we're paying them so much, then we have the full right as citizens to question if we're getting our money's worth. No more such thing as "we have made an honest mistake, let's close ranks and move on."

If market practice is to be competitive, then i say, we pay each of them exactly what he/she is worth. Fairly, based on their actual work and results. And not a one-salary-fits-all.

Long term investments should be by design, not default.

There is one very talented banker and he is formerly chief executive (CEO) of Oversea Union Bank (OUB) before United Overseas Bank (UOB) took over....believe he can do a better job then previous/former DBS bank chief, nomally chief executive has some vision. In this case, it is not, so much like us, very ordinary....expand aggresively during sunshine day and when it rain, retrench.... everybody know or knew it as every one does.....SIA does a better job then DBS

Can not take on such job and or work stress...? Hr dept will be kept even more busier with contract workers, part-timers and hourly temp staffers, anything from S$4/- onward, much lower expectation is required for all effected with this economy down turn, just like 1997 financial down turn, IT dot .com bubble 2003, those willing can still survive whether we old or young :)) for new revamp job.

Can declare worst is over? With all gov intervening, i think a prolonged financial crisis is no more a threat. All banks guarantee deposits, so what can be worst? I think worst is over, in my opinion. However, for market to move forcefully, it might take another 2-3 yrs. Now is the re-org period.

This came as global crude oil prices continued their downward slide.
ExxonMobil led the way by reducing prices at noon, followed by SPC and Caltex at 1pm.
Premium 95 grade now stands at S$1.746 a litre, while the price of diesel is reduced to S$1.503.
Petrol prices have been adjusted across all service stations for the three brands.

Right issue, that can px TT int'l even cheaper.. not good for TT, it can lead to alot more available shares into market, consolidation, reinvent and put it into better ship shape by internal borrow/earning, throught cutting down on excessive borrowing and adding more valueable products out of it current products, even a shares swap in btw to make TT Int'l a Mini MNC.

My 2cents worth

My personal experience. I quit subscribing to all AIA after my insurance polices matured, collect my $$$ n put it in stocks...losses alot, still got a few cents left in value, at least it is not, unlike DBS notes and or Lehman...It worthless, not even 1cent worth, depending on RM to make $$$. I rather depend on myself.

My personal experience - wanted to buy FD but was asked to consider NZD fixed deposits. When I say that I think NZD is falling, she just say "then of course its a good time to buy! it is at low price now!"

Anyone else have stories to tell?
