Scarley one week before election, announcement of HDB flat going only for 100 psf in yishun or ponggol.....So, Happy or not? Some will cry (wanting to sell their lats), some will rejoice (wanting to buy flats)

Issit wise to wait for House hunting after eletion?

Many people like me have bought HDB flats direct from HDB twice in 20 years. Now we can ONLY buy old flats (repeat, old flats from so called open market,i.e. second hand HDB flats). My flat current valuation is higher than my bought price, so theoretically I made a profit, asset value enhanced. But what use has it got for us? Probably just a sense of euphoria.

Theory, if I sell to buy one old flat from the open market, I probably have to pay more, with all the jass like stamp duties, commissions, renovations, etc. I won't profit us. So talking about asset, it is just theoretical, as I ask " where am I going to stay, if I sell without buying? It won't make me rich selling as I could not pocket a difference but instead it taxes my resources more and eats into my nest eggs.

I prefer my current flat to remain stagnant in price, rather than surging as an alternative purchase would not be feasible, since the bank also would refuse to lend me because of age and income. So buying is either out of question, or very difficult to achieve.

For younger families who have yet to buy old flats, at current standards, it might also be difficult. So they depend on HDB schemes of entitlement to buy new flats.

I really could not afford a private house since it would be in the region of millions of dollars loan. Will banks will lend a senior citizen to buy private or HDB properties? Big question that politicians must know and understand.

Politicians are not worried about their own ability because they have plenty of passive income from directorships all over the place. Each directorship easily gives them $200K a year probably free lancing. I read many of them have at least 5 such companies and that is a whopping more than $1 million a year in director fees alone. They have no problems staying in bungalows worth tens of millions. But don't know whether they understand the poor people's dilema living in fast paced Singapore with low income and lack of opportunity to make it big in the private world. Why not make affordabilty a priority for Singaporeans, I can't answer that!

That is my biggest worry.

Isnt child care is just " caring for the child" ?? It fits into the title well.

Unless they change the calling of childcare to EDUCATION CENTRE

Actually I find that childcare not very flexible. I peep through the windows of quite a few childcare centres. They will tell you all sorts of things they teach the child and all bullshiting time tables. The truth is they actually do the learning in the morning. The rest of the day, if you haven't notice, they just let the kids nap and watch TV. They don't allow the kid to drink too much water for fear that all kids rotate to go to the toilet and if your kid still haven't finish their meal within certain time frame they will just throw it away.

Just get a nanny and put the child in a PAP kindergarden lah....give those hdb aunties a job instead.

I AM working full-time and my husband is currently on a long-term overseas working stint.

My official working hours end at 6.30pm and I usually take about an hour via public transport to get from Raffles Place to Sengkang to pick my son up from his childcare centre every day, while my mother helps to take care of my 17-month old daughter at home.

At first, this arrangement suited me as the childcare centre closed at 9pm. Two years ago, they changed this to 8pm, and then they adjusted it again last year to 7.30pm.

I was alarmed by the new timing as this meant I could not afford any unexpected delays or mishaps. I had to brave the crazy rush-hour traffic with my heart in my mouth, praying I would not be late to pick up my son or else I would be fined.

The final bombshell came last month, when the centre issued a notice to say they would adjust the closing time to 7pm with effect from June 1 this year in accordance with stipulations by the Ministry for Community Development, Youth and Sports. I was shocked — no way am I going to be able to make the trip in half an hour.

I do not have anyone else to rely on to pick up my son, and I have already tried calling other childcare centres to seek a place for him, to no avail. [sUpply restrIctIOn ? ? ? ?]

As most of the centres were full as of March, I can only be on the waiting list.

I am near to desperation for an alternative.

Where can I seek help?
