brokers typical can accept 20 stocks and a few portfolio so you can use it to track different account

also yahoo finance is free and yet very useful to track portfolio with performance ( gain /lost)

I think you select one-year chart so the chart is compressed and has 3-day data in one-point

if you select 3 month chart, the chart will have 1 day data , see below chart for 3-month.

however care should be taken since the last day data is not yet updated. the drop on july 16 was not yet updated.

using ChartNexus, you can update lastest day data around 6pm after market is close.

Then according to the yahoo finance chart, the picture is slightly different as you can see.  Different chartists have different results if their records have errors.

    hi aircraft

i re read the rights issue. One thing that differentiate normal rights issue and this WARRANT issue is that warrant has a 2 year time expiry period.

This time period become a premium ( so to speak) for those who want to 'tikam with 20 cents upfront". They need to HOPE that within 2 year the mother price will exceed 20cent + 1.4 = 1.60.

since the payment is 29 July, you have sometime to think about whether you want to tikam with 20 cents for unknown outcome before two year is up.

from past experience, CDP usually update account in early morning of the date of new shares trading.

As such you just need to check tomorrow early morning and you will know how many new shares in your CDP account.

    This news was misleading,

    NOL issued clarification

Clarification Statement re media report on page 5 of the Business Times: “NOL unit, shipping lines raising rates on Asia-US routes” (9 July 2009)
Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) wishes to clarify that this media report (as well as certain other media reports) stem from a press release issued solely by the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (TSA). Neither NOL nor its subsidiary, APL has issued any media or press statement on the subject.
The TSA is a liner discussion agreement covering the Asia/US container trade lane. It comprises14 container shipping lines, including APL.
The TSA regularly issues guidelines on freight rates and other issues. However, individual carriers have a ‘mandatory right of independent action’ whether or not to adhere to these guidelines.
There is no assurance that APL can successfully implement the quantum of freight rate increase as outlined in the TSA guideline.

If you ignore the free nil-paid rights, that means you are throwing away your money . for every 1000 share, you have 170 rights at around says 14cents,or some 24 dollars per lot. Perhaps that is not too important to you. This one is 17 for 100, share dilution is not too much

if you had shares that are issuing 3 rights for 1 share, like Fraser Comm, if you ignore that, your holding will be diluted by a number that is a surprise to you.

By the way you can sell your nil-paid rights for money, tomorrow is last day...

These Rights and Nil Rights thingy sound so confusing to a newbie. That's why although I have the GAR shares, I ignored the Rights thing completely. I also bought them when the prices are at their peak. Still holding onto them and hoping that the price will come back up again.

their filing showed 87.27c average. but i dunno how to interprete because their total buy is 53+million shares, as daily volume is 4-6 millions it take many days to reach 53million thus i dunno how to interprete.

another news relating to delay in opening of  IR might damp down interest as this share would benefit on IR and high tourist arrivals.

THE Marina Bay Sands (MBS) integrated resort will open in January or February, and not the end of this year as previously announced. News of the delay came from the top on Wednesday: Las Vegas Sands (LVS) chairman and chief executive officer Sheldon Adelson.

which stocks are considered blue chips? I am not qualified to answer.

Inspite of that, i do find there is a source of information, none other than the official version for STI for our readings:

Here i just copy and paste the information on FAQ of ST index , read the underline on item (1), i cut off some Q&A.

    the link  is http://www.straitstimes.com/FTSE+ST+Index+Series/FAQ/FAQ.html

The Straits Times Index and FTSE ST series of indices
    What you need to know

A collaboration between Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), Singapore Exchange (SGX) and FTSE Group will create a comprehensive suite of indices that will better reflect the performance of various sectors of the Singapore stock market and meet the needs of both retail and institutional investors.

Here is everything you need to know about this new partnership and what lies ahead for market investors in the coming months:

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
    The Straits Times Index

Q1. What changes have been made to the STI?

The STI was relaunched on 10 January 2008. It underwent two main changes:

    (1) The number of constituent stocks was reduced from 50 to 30. This made the STI a blue chip index. The reduction in constituent stocks did not significantly alter the representativeness of the index, given that it is value-weighted. In fact, the last 20 stocks of the old STI represented only about 10 per cent of the index by market capitalisation.

    (2) The STI is now calculated by FTSE according to its internationally recognised methodology for liquidity criteria and free-float adjustment. The index's constituents will be reviewed by the three parties at regular intervals.

There is no change to the name or numerical values of the STI, which for the past 40 years has been synonymous with the Singapore stock market.
Q2. Why was the number of component stocks on the STI reduced from 50 to 30?

This was to anchor the STI's position as Singapore's blue-chip index - representing the market's top 30 stocks based on market capitalisation, while being free float-adjusted and screened for liquidity using internationally recognised methodology. A 30-stock STI will also facilitate the creation of more index-linked products.
Q3. Which 30 stocks currently make up the STI?

The full list can be found here. The list will next be reviewed in September 2008.

    Just a new announcement below

ST ENGINEERING’S AEROSPACE ARM SECURES PRIMERA AIR
    FOR COMPONENT SUPPORT PROGRAMME
Singapore, 8 July 2009 – ST Engineering today announced that its aerospace arm, ST Aerospace,
has signed a component support programme with Icelandic operator, Primera Air. Worth US$32.5m
(about S$47.3m), the programme is for the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of its landing
gears over five years and an eight-year comprehensive component Maintenance-By-the-Hour
(MBH™) programme that includes parts exchange, MRO, component engineering services and
logistics. Commencing immediately, these contracts are to support the airline’s current fleet of six
Boeing 737 next generation aircraft and an additional six aircraft in the near future.
These contracts supersede the time-and-material component support services arrangement

    hi timewatch

There are many people who classify differently in term of what are called blue chips. However, some of the chips are certainly beyond doubt or otherwise known as the  Bluest  of the blues like Singtel, FNN, Kepcorp, Capitaland , DBS, UOB, Sembcorp, etc. just to name a few.

One schoole of thought is to consider all 30 index components as Blue, this is also found  from Tan Kin Lian (ex NTUC chief)  Blog.

However do take note STI component is revised three-monthly and it will change.  If such is the criteria then Kepland , which was 'kick-out' of Index recently become not classified as Blue whereas Cosco and Olam which are still inside STI component, become blue. Also new entries like Comfort Delgrobecome blue.

I think each blue chips has its different behavior since there are each in different business and thus subject to different business cycle.  it is important for us to choose them as part of our strategy according to our need such as defensive play , dividend play, high beta play etc,
