Credit Suisse raises Asia forecasts as world economy recovers

Credit Suisse raises Asia forecasts as world economy recovers
Asia’s emerging economies will perform better than earlier expected this year and next as the world economy slowly recovers from its worst slump since the Great Depression, Credit Suisse Group AG said today.

“The wounds created by the crisis are at least at the early stages of a healing process,” the bank said in a quarterly report on emerging markets released today. “Credit Suisse economists expect the growth outlook of most emerging Asia countries to improve in the second half of 2009 as the global economy slowly moves into a healing phase,” it said in a statement accompanying the report.

The Zurich-based bank raised its 2009 economic growth forecast for Asia outside Japan to 4.7% from 4.4%, and increased the 2010 estimate to 7.3% from 6.7%. Excluding Japan, China and India, the region’s economy will likely contract 2% this year, reflecting declines in the past six months, Credit Suisse said.

Asian policy makers, who have slashed borrowing costs and pledged more than US$950 billion ($1.38 trillion) of stimulus plans, have started saying their economies may be past the worst of the worldwide recession. Taiwan’s central bank and the US Federal Reserve left their key interest rates unchanged this week, while South Korea raised its forecast for gross domestic product this year.

The International Monetary Fund, which is forecasting a global contraction of only 1.3% this year and growth of 2.4% in 2010, said June 19 that it plans to revise estimates “modestly upward.”

Industrial production in the region’s economies will increase “gradually” in the coming quarters, Credit Suisse said in today’s statement.

This counter may start to bounce up. It has almost hit the lower bollinger band and the support level of around $2.0.

Don't go in yet... watch for actual price change.

U.S. Stock Futures Extend Gains After Durable Goods Top Estimate

Ooo, today another analyst upgrade Kepland Smiley

Keppel Land: Buy (Kim Eng, 24 June)
The recent sales momentum in the primary market has sparked off interest up to the mid- and high-end segments, with projects like One Devonshire (ASP ~$1800 psf) and Martin Place Residences (ASP ~$1700 psf) enjoying good take-up rates. We believe that this bodes well for KepLand, which has a landbank predominantly for these market segments. With the Integrated Resorts some 6-9 months away from completion, we believe that KepLand could capitalise on that to re-launch the balance units at Reflections at Keppel Bay, as well as possibly prepare to launch Marina Bay Suites. The proximity of the projects to each of the Integrated Resorts (IRs) would be a key selling point, and few competitors can boast to have a landbank that has similar exposure to both IRs. With the completion of both phases of the Marina Bay Financial Centre (MBFC) and the Ocean Financial Centre, KepLand would be one of the largest landlords of prime Grade A office space in the Marina Bay area, with an attributable GFA of about 1.6m sq ft. We believe that the low all-in costs of both developments (~$1000 psf) provide sufficient buffer against further declines in the market capital values of prime Grade A office space. We believe that with the return of buyers' confidence in KepLand's key markets like Singapore and China, KepLand is in-line for a re-rating. Backed by a strong balance sheet strengthened by the recent rights-issue, KepLand is well positioned for the next phase of the cycle. We maintain our BUY recommendation at a target price of $2.73, pegged at a 20%-discount to RNAV.

Haha des_khor, emm i like yr reply.

Sometime i also think why some Bank/ investing company keep upgrading some share.

I remember there is a share that has been upgraded for 3 times (if i did not rem. wrongly) this year by a bank/ investing company. In the end after the 3rd upgrade, the price surge up high & the next few days it keep dropping. Maybe the bank/ investing company profit from the surge already.

But quite possible loh yr answer.

However, my own opinion is 2600 is still quite reasonable lah.

Let us continue monitor, cheers.

Ooo my currents average price purchase from open market purchase is $2.38 (excluding those from rights).

Emm still waiting for another entry price to lower if opportunity arise.

Today seems to be a positive day for Kepland.

BTW, BNP Paribas raised its forecast for the Straits Times Index to 2,600 from 2,500 and maintained its “overweight” rating on Singapore.

Hope this new drives the investor mood abit n kepland benefit from it. Cheers.

Yup btw, viewing yr previous few forum, i thk Sureesh u are quite anxious on Kepland performance.

In actual Kepland (blue chip) have good prospect to keep for long term . But my long term is only around 5 to 6 yrs only. Remember recession come in a cycle, so don't keep too long.Smiley

Sell some to profit first if u worry.Smiley

Latest TP updates for Epure investor:

Epure International: Buy (DMG, June 24)
Epure is investing in a second build-operate-transfer (BOT) project in Shaanxi Province. The project is expected to have a treatment capacity of up to 30,000 tonnes of wastewater per day. The investment would cost approximately RMB46m and the concession period is 25 years. We estimate the project would commence around 2H10. As this project is not expected to impact Epure's earnings in FY09, we are maintaining our forecasts. This new project would bring the total number of BOT projects invested by Epure to six. We note that this latest project is the second BOT project secured in Shaanxi province. Similarly in Xi'an province, Epure has secured two projects so far. We remain confident that Epure's strong reputation and track record will continue to help them secure project wins in existing and new provinces. As evidenced by the RMB4t stimulus package, environmental issues remain a priority for the Chinese government in the long run. With the positive industry outlook, we are expecting continued growth in revenue from Epure's project wins. We are maintaining our estimates for revenue and earnings. Earnings is estimated to be RMB252.2m for FY09 and RMB299.8m for FY10. Applying a P/E of 10x to Epure's FY10 earnings, we derive a target price of S$0.51. We maintain our BUY rating given its strong order books of RMB800m (as at end Dec 08).
