Raffles Education Corp - Core growth story to drive re-rating (BUY, $0.485 - TP $0.80, RLSE.SI / RLS SP, Education)

Raffles Education Corp (REC) has entered into a Sale and Purchase Agreement with Mr Ding Fu Ru to sell its 50% stakeholding in subsidiary Value Vantage Pte Ltd. The cash proceeds of $46m will be used to reduce its bank loans and for working capital purposes. Despite the uninspiring results expected of FY Jun11, we remain optimistic about a turnaround in REC’s education business, which should lead to a stock re-rating.

I believe they tried already, but due not lack of transparency of  what is been done, l  not sure they did their best or not. Anyway, hope to hear from them on their explanations of inconsistencies, and see if they can do something to those controlling shareholders who had escaped the rules without do what is needed under the rules.

OMGosh.  Seeing and hearing such frequency of occurrences tells me that the listing rules are just rules and not enforceable on directors of delisted companies.  What is the point of setting up rules when they mean nothing?  Then flouting the rules will be to one's advantage without penalty.  If stealing is not an offence, everyone will become robbers in this world by the grace of rule makers..

Prior to 2010, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (abbreviated CSM) was the world's third largest dedicated independent semiconductor foundry, with its headquarters and main operations located in the Woodlands Industrial Park, Kranji Singapore. The company was listed on the Singapore Exchange under the trading symbol of CHARTERED, as well as on NASDAQ (CHRT), until its buyout.

Chartered provides comprehensive wafer fabrication services and technologies to semiconductor suppliers and systems companies. Chartered's customer base is primarily high-growth, technologically advanced companies operating in the communication, computer and consumer sectors. It does not provide design services and works from customers' designs to produce communications chips.

Besides its own fabs, Chartered operates joint venture facilities with other firms, it offers chip assembly and test services through sister firm STATS ChipPAC. Chartered owns 6 fabrication facilities, all of which are located in Singapore, including the newest, Chartered's first 300-mm facility which started commercial shipment in June 2005.

The other major semiconductor foundries include TSMC and UMC, Taiwanese-based companies, which are primarily Chartered's main competitors.

In 2006 AMD announced that it will manufacture CPUs with Chartered on a 65 nanometer process. It also has alliances with IBM, Infineon, Samsung and Agere Systems.

Chartered Semiconductor was created in 1987 as a venture that included Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd. Yet, it was not until 2000 that ST Engineering (Singapore Technologies Semiconductors), a wholly owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings wholly acquired Chartered.

In September 2009, it was announced that Chartered Semiconductor was about to be acquired by the main stockholder of GlobalFoundries, a joint venture between AMD and Advanced Technology Investment Company(ATIC), of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. By acquiring Chartered, ATIC is expanding its investments and expertise in technology in the semiconductor industry which currently consist of a GLOBALFOUNDRIES facility in Dresden, Germany. This further step in the history of Chartered may bring hope for the company itself to move forward to be the 2nd largest in the world. The transaction was completed at the end of 2009, making ATIC the sole owner of Chartered.

Please be realistic. It is not possible for the share price to drop to $0.30 because SIA and temasak is still holding tight to tigerair. Who knows, they may want to take over by buying more of it share.

Do vest and good luck

  Buy and hold?? Think twice.

Is it possible that SIA and Temasek dumped the remaining share of TigerAir later, leaving the goondu retailers to hold 20-30 cts shares?

Reasons:

1. CEO already sold a portion of his shares. He has lost hope in his own company. This is the worst thing that a CEO can do to his own company. He see no future in budget airline with rising fuel cost. There is speculation he is leaving soon.

2. RyanAir dumped the shares much earlier. They knows TigerAir is not doing well.

3. Hopeless airline to maintain with marginal profit and yearly losses in Oz. Oil price is at all time high.

4. Affects the image of SIA, better have no relationship with TigerAir. Reputation takes long time to build.

5. TigerAir is no match to AirAsia and Jetstar. I never get to see TV ads for TigerAir. It is long forgotten by most Singaporeans,

6. SIA is setting up a new low cost long haul airline, and gave up on this struggling TigerAir.

7. Lots of complaints from people who had experienced its service. Just 2 star category in the airline review.

8. Lots of plane delay and flight cancellation.

9. Employing only casual crews in Oz. No wonder the service is so bad. The poor crews are not paid during this flight ban incident.

10.   This is the very first time that Oz banned the whole airline from flying in the history. See how bad this is airline.

11.   Lots of people in Oz affected by this grounding incident. It is school holiday over there some more. Reputation stinks. Next time, must offer super cheap ticket to lure back the customer.
