The US and South Korea have been preparing themselves for a possible war with North Korea. South Korea and US prepare for North Korea's threats of war On China Daily Forum, a posting said the US Navy had moved a warship and a sea-based radar platform closer to the North Korean coast in order to monitor the country's military moves, including possible new missile launches, said a Defense Department official on Apr 1. Over the last few weeks, North Korea has threatened war on its neighbour. Park Geun-hye, South Korea's new president, promised a strong military response to any North Korean provocation after North Korea announced that the two countries were in a state of war, said to a posting on China Daily Forum. An AFP report on Apr 11 said North Korea kept the world on edge over an expected missile launch while turning its own energies to celebrating leaders past and present amid soaring tensions on the Korean peninsula. The United States warned North Korea it was skating a " dangerous line" as South Korea remained on heightened alert for any missile test, that could start a whole new cycle of tensions in a region already on a hair-trigger. |

The possibility is there, but not so soon.   Wait till the UN sanctions run them dry of food and coupled with China lessening its effort supplying them aids.   When they get hungrier they got no choice but will be glad to fight as a means for survival. | ||||

SEOUL: North Korea may be preparing for a fourth nuclear test, with stepped up activity detected at its main test site, a senior South Korean government official said according to a report Monday. " We are closely monitoring the ongoing situation, which is very similar to the situation seen ahead of the third nuclear test," the unnamed official told the daily JoongAng Ilbo. North Korea carried out its third nuclear test in February, drawing toughened UN sanctions and kick-starting a cycle of escalating tensions that has seen Pyongyang threaten nuclear strikes against the US and South Korea. South Korean intelligence authorities have detected unusually busy personnel and vehicle movements at the Punggye-ri nuclear test site in the country's northeast since last week, the government official reportedly said. " We are trying to figure out whether it is a genuine preparation for a nuclear test or just a ploy to heap more pressure on us and the US," the official added. The heightened activity has been detected near a tunnel at the south side of the atomic test site, the official added. The newspaper cited a senior military official as saying that the North was capable of staging another nuclear test " within several days once a political decision is made" . The North's third nuclear test -- its most powerful to date -- followed previous tests in 2006 and 2009. Pyongyang also said last week that it would resume operations at its mothballed Yongbyon nuclear complex, its only source of weapons-grade plutonium. - AFP/gn |

SEOUL -  North Korea appears to be preparing for a fourth nuclear test, South Korea said Monday, following intelligence reports of heightened activity at its main atomic test site. " There are such signs," Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-Jae told a parliamentary committee hearing when lawmakers asked him to confirm the reports. It was the North's third nuclear test in February and subsequent UN sanctions that kickstarted the cycle of ongoing escalating military tensions that the international community is desperate to break. The JoongAng Ilbo daily said South Korean intelligence had detected unusually busy personnel and vehicle movements at the North's Punggye-ri nuclear test site since last week. " We are trying to figure out whether it is a genuine preparation for a nuclear test or just a ploy to heap more pressure on us and the US," it cited an unnamed South Korean government official as saying. Intelligence reports also suggest Pyongyang has readied two mid-range missiles on mobile launchers on its east coast, and is aiming at a test firing before the April 15 birthday of late founding leader Kim Il-Sung. A missile launch would be highly provocative, especially given the strong rebuke the North's sole ally China handed it on the weekend and a US concession to delay its own planned missile test. Kim Jang-Soo, chief national security adviser to President Park Geun-Hye, said a test-launch could come before or after Wednesday, the date by which the North has suggested foreign diplomats consider leaving Pyongyang. Japan has ordered its armed forces to shoot down any North Korean missile headed towards its territory, a defence ministry spokesman in Tokyo said Monday. The New York Times reported that the US and South Korea have drawn up plans for a measured tit-for-tat response to North Korean actions, which will be limited in order to prevent an escalation to broader war. Citing unnamed US officials, the newspaper said the new " counter-provocation" strategy calls for an immediate but proportional " response in kind" if the North decides to launch a missile or ground attack. North Korea's bellicose rhetoric has reached fever pitch in recent weeks, with near-daily threats of attacks on US military bases and South Korea in response to ongoing South Korea-US military exercises. There has been growing global concern that the crisis could spiral out of control, and China appeared to respond at the weekend to repeated calls for it to take a harder line with Pyongyang. " No one should be allowed to throw a region, even the whole world, into chaos for selfish gains," Chinese President Xi Jinping told an international forum in southern China on Sunday. Although he did not mention North Korea by name, Xi's remarks were taken as a clear warning to the regime in Pyongyang which is hugely dependent on China's economic and diplomatic support. On Saturday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had told UN chief Ban Ki-moon that Beijing would " not allow troublemaking on China's doorstep." The United States, which has met the North's threats with some military muscle-flexing of its own, offered a calibrated concession Saturday by delaying a planned inter-continental ballistic missile test. A US defence official said Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel had postponed the Minuteman 3 test because it " might be misconstrued by some as suggesting that we were intending to exacerbate the current crisis with North Korea" . The mid-range missiles mobilised by the North are reported to be untested Musudan models with an estimated range of around 1,860 miles (3,000km) that could theoretically be pushed to 2,485 miles with a light payload. That would cover any target in South Korea and Japan, and possibly even US military bases on the Pacific island of Guam. The North has no proven inter-continental ballistic missile capability that would enable it to strike more distant US targets, and many experts say it is unlikely it can even mount a nuclear warhead on a mid-range missile. Diplomats in Pyongyang huddled at the weekend to discuss a warning from the North's authorities that their safety could not be guaranteed after April 10 if a conflict broke out. Most of their governments have made it clear they have no immediate plans to withdraw personnel, and some suggested the advisory was a ruse to fuel growing global anxiety over the crisis. The one concrete step North Korea has taken is to block South Korean access to the Kaesong joint industrial zone that lies 10 kilometers inside the North side of the heavily-militarised border. The block remained in place for a sixth straight day Monday. - AFP/ck |

Now that the young Kim has made so much noise,I think he might order a limited strike on S.Korea as a way to tamp down hostilities. The attack would not be nuclear nor a barrage of massive artillery  aimed at south.I think a small attack might be on the card such as sinking S.Korea corvette which they did to Cheonan in Mar 2010 killing 46 sailors or a punitive strike on  Yeonpyeongdo  island  in same year  Nov during which a U.S.-South Korea military exercise was held. He is likely  to carry out  a small deadly attack  to  display his might in order to get a better economic bargaining concession. This will be his showtime and  the best start for a young and relatively unknown leader going forward. |

Have you all ever wondered who will lose the most if N.K starts the war ?    Ans : Every neighboring country that have a stable economy.    What has N.K got to lose ?    Ans : Nothing much to lose anyway since they don't have natural resources.   What's the best way for the neighboring countries to do to protect   their interests ? Ans : Offer resources as peace.      This is the best outcome I can think of. N.K is cfm going to take up the offer as peace offerings. There will never be a war. And N.K will not step down until he is offered a peace option cos he's ego is at stake. That should be his plan all along.    Cos if I wanna whack someone I don't like, i won't tell the whole world. I'll catch everyone by surprise. Like how Hitler almost conquer the world and Japan conquer Asia.  |
