From today business times
SINCE Biosensors International Group announced the acquisition of China stent maker JW Medical last week, its share price has been on the move, gaining some 6 per cent from 90.5 cents last week to 96 cents yesterday. The acquisition has been well received by investors for several reasons. First, the $173 million purchase for the rest of JW Medical will give Biosensors full control of the fast-growing medical devices company. Second, it will give Biosensors access to a well-connected distribution network for its own drug-eluting stents. Its flagship BioMatrix stent is pending regulatory approval by European authorities. And its China approval is likely to hinge on its CE Mark badge, if and when it gets one. China's healthcare market has plenty of upside potential in the long term. According to a report on China's life sciences market by Rabobank, China's medical devices market clocked up sales of 34.2 billion yuan (S$6.8 billion) in 2005 and was the world's eighth-largest market then. Per capita spending on medical devices is a mere US$3.20, compared with per capita spending on pharmaceuticals of more than US$30. Millenium Research Group reckons that in the stents category, China is the largest market in Asia ex-Japan. It accounts for 48 per cent of the US$800 million of annual stent sales in the region, and 90 per cent of that comes from drug-eluting stents. Clearly, Biosensors is seeing that potential. The group, which took a 50 per cent stake in JW Medical last year, will accrue a portion of the latter's earnings to its bottom line this year - a definite boost for loss-making firm Biosensors. For the nine months ended Sept 30, 2007, JW Medical grew its net income almost three times to US$11.1 million. The feat was achieved despite JW Medical having introduced its sole drug-eluting stent only in 2006. With more than 80 distributors and 50 sales professionals in China, JW Medical has an enviable network that Biosensors can leverage on when its proprietary BioMatrix is ready for the market. Meanwhile, there is the possibility of expanding its production capacity there, following the expected completion of a new manufacturing plant by JW Medical this year. Probably the hidden gem in the deal is the vendor, Shandong Weigao Group Medical Polymer. Listed on Hong Kong's Growth Enterprise Market, Weigao has an extensive product portfolio of more than 120 items, from consumables to implantables. Its distribution network is even more formidable - 18 sales offices and 664 staff spread across 107 cities in China. Named by Credit Suisse as one of this year's healthcare sector picks in Asia, Weigao's network covers 84.4 per cent of China's top-tier hospitals and 26.5 per cent of second-tier ones. For the nine months ended Sept 30, 2007, it reported a 75.6 per cent surge in profit to 198.6 million yuan on a 36.8 per cent jump in turnover to 777.4 million yuan. Weigao's broad footprint has already been noticed by New York-listed Medtronic. The medical technology company recently formed a joint venture with Weigao to market orthopaedic products and is taking a 15 per cent stake in it as well. The fact that Weigao is selling its stake in JW Medical for shares instead of cash is a signal of confidence in Biosensors' long-term outlook. A wild card could potentially be the CE Mark approval for its BioMatrix drug-eluting stent. Biosensors indicated earlier that it expects to receive the green light late this month. 'When' it does, the stent, which incorporates a biodegradable polymer, could provide an added catalyst to speed its journey to profitability. Shareholders just have to keep their fingers crossed that 'when' doesn't become 'if'. |

I concur with the 89.5c support and 85c. But between 91.5c to 95c zone, it does seem pretty difficult to come to a conclusion regarding the support. If 89.5c holds IMO it's ok; but if the stock does try to breach 85c, better run. Big gap to be filled. Indicators wise it does look overbought. Watch the 50dma-200dma crossover. FA wise I dun have a problem with this stock at all. |

there is no right and wrong. pradigm shift. everyone see the chart different to a certain degree. you can trade as your plan. for me 95c is kinda support but not as strong as the 90c region. |

Cashier, i'm looking at the charts, imo, 95c is not an impt support. i think BIG will likely range trade with a lower bound at 92.5c and a support at 90.5c. if it does that without breaking support, looks like a consolidation phase; building a higher base. if it does that for a couple of days, we'll get a nice bollinger squeeze, ready for the next breakout. (i agree with ur next support levels at 85c and 80c, break these 2 and 65c, here we come) wat do u tink? cheers. nb: this is my TA contribution, FA-wise, i'm a supporter of BIG. |

Wau! talking about beer, thats my favorite daily drink but I am not addicted to it. I hv stopped drinking beer since 7 of Jan 08 as I felt all my fingers numb and stiff. It could be attributed to my day-long drinking during the stock lull period in Dec 07. On the other hand it could be also attributed to my bone in the neck problem. Anyway, I hv made medical appt with the specialist at NUH on 24 Jan 08 to ascertain whether the fingers numbness were attributed to the neck nerve compression. If everything ok, lets give that man a Tiger. Don't worry about the BIG. Cheers. |

hi, is ok i appreciate your gesture, i do have ur email. i dun and cant drink alcohol as i am allergic to alocohol and will have rashes if contact with it. however if you want to treat me, u can consider donating the beer $ to a charity under your own name. That is enough for me. If there is any questions regarding any ebook, u can email me. if u wanna ask abt genie which mani is introducing, i would say dun bother with it. just go to www.stockcharts.com for better and free education. |

It is ok to me if u have a proven way of trading. DCA is one of them, however plz note that money mgmt is the key to winning in any stock. for me, i simply use TA for my ideal entry and exit price for lowest riak and highest return possible. one example is when that p came to tell ppl to sell w/o any proper reasons, however i do see any signal for exit hence i didnt bother with the call, however if there is a proper and acceptable reason, i may take the call to sell. however, sometimes we need to also see the person's prediction accuracy and basis of prediction. i wont and cant accept hidden reasons as i dun trust ppl with low accurarcy. I am happy that i am able to help ppl in their trade to reduce their risk, that is enough for me. all i can say is trade with prudence, care and courage! |
