warning on HPL: A/D and C/O consistent downtrend for 2 days alr. been tracking the actual buy/sell vols too: for friday and today (did not see yest's data, apologies), consistent reading of large lots sold, small lots buying. For today, trades of 50 lots above, 8 sellers, 3 buyers. Candlestick topping first red signal. Caveat emptor. baseerahmed, belated thanks for the compliment. no prob, we're all just learning from each other here. :) |

a theory .. is not the law, is not the absolute truth ... therefore can be pulled and stretched or broken and replaced by another theory....for want of a new theory and replacement , the old one stays ...( testing font size 1, how come big letters , huh? ) |

LOL ! i am just a lay man thinking aloud : i see lions on the african plains , i also see the zebras, the hyenas, the cheetas ,the giraffe, and the elephants . all of them on the same plains. the very same enviroment , but many variety of animals , how did each of 'evolve' into so many unique animals? if the enviroment is the same , then shouldn't they be all similar ? there could be variations within the group, say among the giraffes long nose, short horn etc , but how come each of them a very unique . how did the dogs become dogs and the cats become the cats and the cows become the cows and the peacock become the peacok ? i am now scratching my head. so , which came first : the chicken or the egg ? ( felt like jumping into evolution debate for fun ! i am not taking any sides here ! just for entertainment !! that's all ) : ) |

but then Sporeguy, your story also brings out another aspect of the selection theory, i.e that the fiercest is not neccessary the winner in the evolutionary race... because as you have surfaced, the fierce dog died before he can reproduce himself; he is just too fierce for his (and his genes) own good... that is why very virulent virus cannot last genetically, because it kills its host before they (the virus has the time ) to reproduce themselves.. and that is my point re my question to Elfinchilde.... |

ah, this is the influence of man, which play punk with the theory of Evolution... in the natural world, if the fierce dog was not killed by man, he would have eaten the little Bingos and go on to mate the female dog to produce little fierce dogs. This is certainly the case with African lions when they drive out the dominant lion: they will relentlessly kill all the existing lion cubs so that the female lions will then go into heat to produce cubs of the intruder lion. .. so sad but this is the true lion story... |

Bingo died bcos of the injuries attacked by this fierce dog. But the descendents of the female dog were from Bingo. The fierce dog was killed by a man in the neighbourhood because it also attacked his children. He punched the fierce dog on its nostril. Note the fierce dog also attacked its owners. |

Hi Sporeguy, i think in your analogy you have provided the clue... lets say you are not around i.e no human interference... I think the fierce dog would have killed Bingo and then mated with the female dog... no matter how much she "liked" Bingo, there will be no little Bingo... this is the Theory of Natural Selection.... |

good observation Ipunter.... but, re "influence" have you seen how Alsakan huskies pull the sledge and their relation with the lead dog? and the relationship of ants or bees vis their queen? or the hundreds of thousands of wildebeast milling at the Mara River crossing and then following one of them that dare to cross.. and I can go on and on with lots of examples.. how the cheetah cub learnt to hunt from the mother..etc.. |

Many years ago, I had a dog (a kind of sheep dog, not the lassie type, but of shorter jaw) by the name of Bingo. "He" was a very good guard dog, yet very gentle with cat and other neighbourhood dogs. He was very well trained by his previous owner (I was the 3rd owner as their previous 2 owners had to go back to England). When I went (I was a teenager student then) to get to know the 2nd owner and Bingo, Bingo immediately put his two front paws on my shoulders with his facing right in front of my face. His eyes show that he was trying to study me, but I frooze and dare not made a move. Bingo only came down when the 2nd owner gave a sound signal. In my neighbourhood, there was a very fierce and athletic dog (looked like cross very between alsatian and dobermann) which will attack any other dogs or even people. In the same area, there was a also a female dog (looked like cross between alsatian and local dog). We observed that the female dog liked Bingo and they seemed to be dating. Even the fierce dog were not able to break them although the fierce dog did attack and injured Bingo. We observed that female dog will always go in pair with Bingo. In the law of jungle, the female dog should had chosen the stronger and king of the area, but this was not in this case. It seems dogs do have a mind of their own. |

Humans are unique in that they are the only species that has the ability to 'brainwash' others and the susceptability to being 'brainwashed' by other more 'clever' humans. While animals like dogs for example, can be 'brainwashed' (otherwise known as trained), they don not have the ability to influence other dogs. |

But does that 'assertion' really 'hold water'? I mean, in terms of nature (which is what evolution is all about), how can femininity stand for 'beauty'??? If one only take an unbiased look at the vast world of all animals, one will readily see the truth, ie. the males are obviously more beautiful. Further, on what basis is one to say female humans are the exception in the world of nature? ... How does one define 'beauty' in humans?... Good makeup?... or Physiological attractiveness to males? |

I like to examine Elf's point " because reduced to darwinian principles and evolutionary trends (yeayea, i'm belated), the definition of masculinity is strength; the definition of femininity is beauty." if this were so, then we should see alot of tall muscular man and lots more pretty/beautiful woman around ... yet we dont see many Mongolian people (although they conquered an empire that stretched from Korea to even Rome) nor the likes of Helen of Troy (the face that launched a thousand ships: even Troy has long since gone).. |

This is the insomniac owl watch.. reporting... Yes Eastonbay, sir and we must include you in the roll of honour, with your insightful notes and comments... you bring quality to the posts for example, you are absolutely right to point out that the full time investor could be taxed. My take is that the taxman is not gona let you go scot free (they are always right until you can without shadow of doubt prove them wrong) because of a loop hole... |

re: capital gain tax that's not taxable. However, there's a catch. If you are full time investor, i.e. if you do not have other income source, except playing/investing in the stock market, then your capital gain is considered as your main source of income and therefore subject to taxation!!! shplayer, tax man has never come after you? I remembered you mentioning rationalisation process of your co... etc etc and turning to the market. re: popularity of this thread... I would credit Elf for making this a very lively place... her 'weird' association with Elf, characters from LOTR and giving out badges and all attracted me and made me laugh. Besides laughing, there are also solid FA recommendation etc here in this entertainment thread. Of course, all other contributors like Chinkiasu with his emoticons, bunbun, shplayer, geojam, i_tan, singaporegal, i_punter, victorian, yongjiu etc etc and so many others (sound like a thankyou mention at Academy awards) made this a great thread... Cheers to all who have in one way or the other made this a great fil... hmmm sorry I meant a great read (I must have watched too many of those award presentation programs lately) |
