I think it is a very healthy correction for the market, prices have moved up quite a lot for some counters since SARS period. Profit taking should be expected. |

Sat. 20 May 2006 This week's trading scenario was perhaps the most exciting and for many, also a most disappointing week, since a long time. STI for the week May 15, 2006 to Friday, 20.5.2006, fell 126.60 pts or - 4.83% to 2493.98 pts. YTD, STI still is ahead at +148.6 pts or + 6.335%. In effect, it means this week ending, STI surrendered back 43.26% of the total gains advanced since Jan. 3. 2006. This is the worst performancing week for over 3 years not seen except during the SARS period, on week, 27 Jan 2003 where the STI fell - 4.90 % in one week. Global equity markets in U.S. Asia and Europe all declined. Commodities prices have also fallen from their all-time highs since this week, Crude Oil, Gold, Silver, Copper, Aluminium etc. Analysts are divergence in their views, most indicated more caution and expect more downside to come in the coming days and weeks. Others,(the contrarians) the minority indicated now is the time and opportunity for bargains, since the fundamentals remain solid and strong. Arguing temporal short-term decline is to be expected since the markets/companies have moved ahead of their valuations, due to speculative buying and from previously low interest rates where Hedge Funds have borrowed heavily to invest and to speculate especially in Commodities. What will happen on Monday? who knows, the STI has become rather volatile and but good signs are there for a postive comeback soon, as the trading volume had decreased, indicating SELLERS number reducing and BUYERS on the sidelines may return soon. Good Luck on Monday, 22.5.2005. end....... |

I strongly believe that we have not seen the end of the crash. The market is just taking time to catch its breath. I believe we'll see the down trend continue again after a breather of a few days at the most. I don't think the IR news will have much effect because this crash is mostly due to GLOBAL meltdown and not the Singapore market. |

Will monday STI will probably recovering slowly . Since last week many comapany have already reach it lowest points. And those who bought it at that price are usually value investor, they are unlikely to sell away their share, Unless there are a dramatic change in the fundamental of the company. last Fri U.S Market are mostly on the green. Beside that IR result are going to be out soon, property stock will reacting to that, and the others stock will be following carefully. |
