It rose after two brokers lifted their price targets for the stock on news that the firm had won two contracts worth $1.7b. Keppel said KIE would run a solid waste management plant for the Qatar government -- the first such facility in the Middle East -- for 20 years. UBS raised its price target for the stock to $19.60, from $18.90 previously, and maintained its "buy" call, saying it expects Keppel to derive recurring net profits of about $5.4m from the contract. "In our view, this is the infrastructure division's most prestigious victory and the contract risk-reward appears favourable," UBS analyst Cheryl Lee said in the report. CIMB-GK also lifted its price target for Keppel's stock to $18.40 from $18.25 previously, and maintained its "outperform" recommendation. |

Under the agreement, the largest offshore environmental engineering deal ever won by a Singaporean company, KIE's wholly owned subsidiary Keppel Seghers will design and build four waste transfer stations and an Integrated Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre (DSWMC) servicing the whole of Qatar, which it will operate and maintain for a period of 20 years. Scheduled for completion in 2009, the waste management centre will have an initial capacity of handling more than 1,550 tonnes of waste per day. In a release to the SGX, Keppel Seghers CEO Mr. Chua Chee Wui said the company viewed the deal as a clear sign of the quality of its work and hoped that the contract would boost the strength of its international reputation. "We competed against some of the best international companies in this tender. Winning this contract is a ringing endorsement of Keppel's state of the art technologies and project management expertise," he said. As the facility will be the first of its kind to be built in the Middle East, Wui suggested that the deal places the company in a good position to expand its interests in the area, fulfilling urgent demand for essential infrastructure as the region's governments sought to diversify their economies with support for growth outside the oil and gas sectors. "Keppel will continue to tap the vast opportunities in the Middle East to secure more projects. We will leverage our established track record in offering both our water and thermal waste treatment solutions to clients in this region," he said. |

It said unit Keppel Integrated Engineering (KIE) has been awarded two solid waste management contracts, worth $1.7b from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture in Qatar. The contracts, to be handled by KIE's unit Keppel Seghers, are for the engineering, procurement, and construction of an integrated solid waste management facility in Qatar, as well as to operate and maintain the facility for 20 years. The facility is expected to be operational by 2009. Keppel said in a statement that with these two contracts, its infrastructure division will become a significant contributor to the group. "The infrastructure division is expected to contribute about 10% to the net earnings of Keppel Corporation for the next three years, commencing 2007," it said |

Citigroup says it has raised its target price to $20.00 from $19.65 to reflect the increase in its fair value for Keppel Corp unit Keppel Land. Citigroup is keeping its "buy" rating for Keppel Corp because it expects the firm to post robust growth in its key divisions, led by the offshore and marine division, with an estimated CAGR of 38% in its earnings over three years. "The infrastructure division should deliver significant growth, albeit from a small base, to account for between 10-15% of group profit after tax and minority interests by 2007," Citigroup said in a note to clients. "[Keppel Land] also continues to benefit from strength in the Singapore property market and its regional drive," it said. Citigroup expects Keppel Corp's net profit to grow to $707m this year from $564m last year, to $916m next year and to $1.07b in 2008. |

Daiwa says it has raised its six-month estimate to $15.60 to factor-in higher valuations for the company's oil-related assets. But Daiwa is keeping its "hold" rating for Keppel Corp. "At the current share price, we see little upside potential to our target price, and believe the stock is fully valued in the near term," Daiwa said in a note to clients. "We think there may be further downward pressure on the share price if oil prices remain at current levels over the next few months," it said. However, the research house regards the medium-term outlook for Keppel as bright because it expects demand for offshore oil and gas rigs to remain strong over the next 3-5 years, in view of high energy prices and the aging of the world's fleet of rigs. |

"We see this as a strong signal that the replacement trend for the global rig fleet still remains strong, as buyers remain willing to [a] pay higher price in view of the high chartering rates and shorter payback periods," said OCBC said. So far this year, Keppel has secured about $6.2b-worth of offshore and marine engineering contracts. OCBC rates Keppel a "buy", with a target price of $17.60. |
