thats may be possible if the operational cost incurred is same with last FY. ie CO furhter reduced and raw materials, recycle papers n cardboards prices reduced. Last yr a kg of waste paper was below 5 cts, now 10 over cts liao. 2 yrs forecast is too far basing of current volatile market, as contrast with the belowmention posted earlier, "the near term". 1H could be viable and manageable. Pse note that Indon had stopped exporting woods and other countries also follow suit owing to global preservation of green treaty. Paperless IT platform would be the ultimate solution for information publicity, hence hard printing would be the past storry liao. Pse also note that Telco now are dwelling into to expend the capabilities on Ipod phone. And they will reduce the on air time usage rate to compete with the market. Really, its a wonderful info comms savvy well ahead loh. |

its 3Q08 turn over: 77.3% newspaper and magazine, 19.3% on property investment, and ohters 3.4%. advertising revenue, which has registered commendable growthand remained resilent so far, is expected to perform in tendom with the economy. newsprint prices, which have seen sharp increases, are poised to rise further. admidst the planned curtailment of production capacity by some newsprint mills, the current supply crunch, exacerbated by escalating raw materials and energy costs are expected to persist at least for the near term. 3Q08 earnings lower despite higher turnover due to lower investment income. however, directors, including Johny Tan, expect the recurrent earnings for FY 08 to be better than 07. BTW, its 2H07 was on 12 Oct 07. |

The current trend of weakness is mainly due to the worry of increase newsprint price after Oct08 and lower investment return as pointed out by Citi's analyst which downgrade it to Hold with Tp of $4.50. However, there are many more brokers whom maintain Buy rating on this big elephant with Tp > $5.00 cited that the increase in its operating cost can be cushioned by increase in rental/property return. So, who to believe...is the offshore Bank's wording more powerful? I think Mr Market is right... at least currently. Will collect more should sub $4 appear......shorters, need a little more effort/action please! |

SPH is going into various new businesses ... which are not their core... And it is no more attractive as it has exhausted its land bank in Thomson.... and wonder what is next growth for SPH?? Unless, it redevelops Paragon .... or converts it into another REIT .... Paragon REIT....

My advice is don't put too much also, unless you are risk averse. Put some into growth stocks in case there is a mini-rally. You never know. Just apportion according to your risk appetite. Fund managers do this kind of thing as well. They call it diversification or risk management. Of course, Warren Buffet does not diversify very much. They said if you diversify, it means you do not know the companies well. Indeed, many of us do not know them well, so still better to diversify. Better to be safe than sorry, as our funds are hard-earned.

All the analysts in town recommend this counter. It is very strange that for the past years this counter do not move much .It is a defensive stock.Buy it for dividends or keep it for your grandchildren.Yet to see TP stated by all the analysts.Perhaps when stated TP, please mention a time frame,3mths, 6 mths, 1 yr, 2yrs, 5 yrs, 10 yrs, 15 yrs or ????????????????? Cheers and good luck.

SPH outperforming rest of market as its safe haven properties attract cautious investors. "We like the stock for its defensiveness. At the current price, SPH offers an attractive dividend yield of more than 6% for FY8-FY10," says Macquarie. Broker says company not immune to inflationary pressures, but its near-monopoly status has allowed it to pass on some costs by raising ad rates for flagship titles. Reiterates Outperform rating, unchanged $5.58 target price.

Don't worry lah! Monopoly sure make one! Only thing is that it is very slow. Perhaps better to put into growth stocks than this. Anyway, i've few lots for dividends and leveraging. Treat is as a bonds in your portfolio. How can monopoly lose money one? Ask yourself. Like SMRT, comfortdelgro etc. Will not lose money one! |

Kim Eng cuts Singapore Press Holdings target price to $5.26 from $6.18, maintains Buy rating. Broker gives no reason for target price cut, save to say target is derived from sum-of-the-parts valuation. Says company offers attractive combination of yield and value, with recent share price drop offering good buying opportunity. Adds, stock is good pick for inflation hedge as has defensive earnings, sustainable strong dividend yields of 5%-6% for FY08-FY10. Says advertising revenue on track to meet FY08 growth forecast of 8% with events such as mobile number portability, Formula One race likely to underpin spending.
