We are back at the stage where GM and Crysler problem.. Let them go bust or rescue them situation..

Stock price will go up if rescue annoucement. Stock price to go down slowly if pending restructure. Let them file chapter 11, another blood bath coming up..

Handy handout: Sinopec got 50.3b yuan in government subsidies last year, 70% more than its net profit for year

(HONG KONG) Top Asian oil refiner Sinopec Corp posted a near doubling in quarterly profit on Sunday thanks to state handouts and a steep decline in crude oil prices that restored refining profits, but it warned of a challenging 2009 amid the economic downturn.

Sinopec, the world's second-largest refiner after Exxon Mobil, recorded a first fall in annual profit in 7 years, with full-year net profit almost halved from 2007, as record high crude prices in the first half and low state-capped fuel prices hammered margins.

Sinopec expects international oil prices to fluctuate at a relatively low level this year on the back of falling demand.

Let's all hope that today's fall will be limited as the fall yesterday (-67pts) somehow factored in the anticipated bloody session in the US overnight. I would like to think STI dropped no more than -20pts today and perhaps rises +10pts. Cheers!

Those who managed to get some puts should be pretty happy now. But remember not to be too greedy, take some profit tomorrow, maybe leave 50% holding to ride the remaining downwave.

Hi all,

See how STI came soooooo close to previous high (hit 1779 only, 2 pts shy of 1781) but fail to show follow-through buying strength today? STI also tested a low when it moved to 1677 (gap support was 1681), but survived to close at 1691 (I think this was on Wed).

I hope most of the longists have taken their profits. Should see Dow pretty red tonight (unless the US window-dressers still got enuff $$$ to push).

Let's face it... the fundamentals are still bad; I think most of the rallying last few days have been mainly driven by shortists scrambling to cover plus kanchiong ppl afraid to miss the ride up. But no market chiongs forever.

For now, STI's close below 1755 is also not too good. Should see STI fall to test 1723 on Monday if Dow goes reasonably red tonight (i.e. maybe -100 max, but if Dow goes below 7700..... well...).

Prepare some puts. Or, if you failed to get out of your long positions, make sure you have solid stop losses or breakeven points to stick to.

Sweet man... Brought at this year to support STI, almost begin to be convince by some stupid analyst report on doomsday... Suddenly STI up by about 250pts/..

Time for some profit taking..In case media start to print very negative news.. Close some postion over the weekend, lock in some profit and have a nice meal with family...

But some short term speculative counters might keep running, invest with care momentum is alittle too fast for me i think... If it is for long term it is ok as even correction of 10%-15% it is still cheap..................

Agreed, looking at a wider perspective, not in local but globally. However, some of those pessimistic stuff mentioned by d MFTs previously, still can be used as ref loh.
