http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2013/07/protesters_to_hand-deliver_pet.html BATTLE CREEK, MI – Members from a consumer watchdog group will hand-deliver a petition to Kellogg Co. on Thursday, which asks the company to end a partnership with a company, accused of harming rainforests. Kellogg Co. partnered with Asian agribusiness company Wilmar International Limited in September 2012. Wilmar manufactures, sells and distributes Kellogg cereals and snacks in China. The watchdog organization SumofUs.org is protesting the partnership because of Wilmar's alleged palm oil trading practices, which they say harm rainforests. Members from SumofUs.org, a non-profit organization which aims to hold corporations accountable for their actions, are bringing a petition with 116,000 signatures to Kellogg Co.'s headquarters in Battle Creek on Thursday to ask company CEO John Bryant to end the company partnership with Wilmar. SumofUs.org says corporations, when unchecked, are the cause of environmental catastrophes, financial crisis, rising food prices, and poisons poured into the air affecting “families from Kalamazoo to Timbuktu,” on their website. “Wilmar International and the palm oil industry has had a devastating impact on the forests of Southeast Asia, wiping out millions of hectares of forest and releasing millions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere every year,” a statement from the organization said. “Wilmar International’s record is so bad that Newsweek named it the least sustainable corporation in the world -- worse than Exxon Mobil, TransCanada, and even Monsanto -- and that the company has a history of illegally logging on protected forests, the homes of critically engaged tigers and rhinos, for decades.” On Thursday, protesters and environmentalists Rhiannon Tomtishen and Madison Vorva, who have previously led a campaign to get Kellogg’s Girl Scout Cookies to be deforestation free, will deliver the petition at 11 a.m. at 2 Hamblin Ave E. in Battle Creek. The petition asks Kellogg to end the partnership unless Wilmar agrees to stop deforestation. “Kellogg recognizes and respects concerns about the sustainability of palm oil and has gone to great lengths to ensure we are doing our part on this important issue,” said Diane Holdorf, Kellogg Co.'s chief sustainability officer, in response to the planned event. “We use a very small percentage of the global supply of palm oil, and all of the palm oil we use is 100% sustainably sourced.” BakeryandSnacks.com reported earlier this month that Kellogg is defending Wilmar in the dispute, which stems from WWF’s June report that accuses Wilmar of trading illegally grown palm oil in Indonesia. Kellogg only works with members of the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil, according to the report, but SumofUs.org doesn’t seem to be convinced the roundtable membership is enough. Kellogg executives said they have been in contact with the non-profit organization about the issues and have even met with organizers prior to this event. “We will continue working toward the development of a sustainable palm oil supply that is environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable,” Holdorf said.   |

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2013-08-01/wilmar-ghana-gains-to-record-on-palm-oil-rally-accra-mover Wilmar International Ltd. (WIL)’s Ghanaian unit climbed for a fourth day to the highest on record after crude palm oil gained, attracting pension-fund managers in West Africa’s second-biggest economy. Benso Oil Palm Plantation Ltd., based in the Western region city of Takoradi, advanced 2.9 percent to 3.60 cedis by 12:03 p.m. in the capital, Accra, the highest since November 2004 when Bloomberg began compiling the data. Trading volume was equal to 1.8 times the three-month daily average. Crude palm oil for September delivery rose a third day, advancing 0.6 percent to 2,280 ringgit ($703) a metric ton as shipments increased from Malaysia, the top producer after Indonesia, signaling a rebound in demand. Benso’s stock is the third-best performer on the Ghanaian bourse this year, which rallied 61 percent as managers of pension funds, created after restrictions on the industry were loosened, seek investments. “Prices of palm oil are doing favorable now,” Randy Mensah, a stock trader at Accra-based Ecobank Development Corp., said by phone. “Buyers of these shares are pension-fund managers who are looking for the best stocks to invest their funds.” Benso Oil’s net income declined 42 percent to 4.1 million cedis ($2 million) in the first half through June 30, it said on July 23. Revenue fell to 20.9 million cedis from 23.9 million cedis a year earlier, it said, blaming the drop on lower international palm-oil prices. In the period, the commodity retreated 9 percent |

Wilmar is 1 stand shop commodity company from  plantation till  retailing to consumer hand. What you can see in Wilmar past  few quarter result in conjunction with commodity price? The cheaper raw material price the market has, the better profit margin wilmar can achieve. Anyway, last year 2Q result profit was only 117M, price still stay above 3 dollar. Coming quarter can any how beat this result. Shortist has zero excuse to short Wilmar down further in next week from current pricing. Wahahahahhaahaha!!!! |

UOB Kay Hian has results preview. House expect Wilmar to deliver a net profit of US$240m-280m, lower q/q but higher y/y on the turnaround of the oilseed & grain division from losses in 2Q12. The palm & laurics division is likely to be the only division to show stronger numbers to partly offset the weakness of the other divisions. House still maintains its BUY Call with a Target price of $3.80. | ||||
