Elfinchilde... Thank you very much, once again... for your very valuable and timeless contributions... :) About your trading method, I wouldn't say it's odd, but rather, practical and human, which is good! |

haha yes tanglinboy, ho bee's surge was hugely enjoyable. but try being out of the country and having the price surge man. missed the sell off. >~< tho as the punter says, not to worry, another counter will always have its turn. it's the nature of the market. :) hohokit, i'd expect the market to be very fluid and volatile in 2007, what with the current instability in the world. Move fast, and try to hit your profit target by end sept. Current climate is way too uncertain. |

hey...i've only been gone a short while...since when did the forum degenerate into this? :( hehe...this elf quotes romeo and juliet: "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet...."--really, does it matter what others call you, as long as you know what you are doing and your purpose in the stock market, which is to turn a profit? I mean, day trader, investor, punter, gambler etc, these are all just labels. Let's look beyond that. The bottom line is only one thing: profit. And as i said once, there are lots of ways to make a profit. The important thing for each investor is to know his/her own weaknesses and strengths, and adopt a suitable strat accordingly. e.g., singaporegal and ipunter use TA almost purely, which necessarily means they have to move fast, and their stocks have to be of a certain min price in order to be more accurate. Whereas i (for instance) use a very odd blend of TA+FA, which means i can pick up cheaper stocks, but also that i prob hold for a longer period. No one method's superior, it's just what realistically suits your needs and temperament, that's all. let's have a modicum of grace and agree to disagree, yeah? :) |

The horse owner of that once upon a time wonderhorse...oops sori for the pun shoud be vanderhorst were burnt to ashes and now appears to have miraculously risen like a "phoenix" playing on our addiction for oily play. Some gamblers made big bucks, not sure about those ex-investors.

That's an interesting question. There are differences and yet similarities. We know that not all horses are alike, some are stronger and of sturdier pedigree and run faster and farther. The winners usually have a good track record similar to a profitable company. Like a blue chip with a solid management, steering the winning horse is often a champion and experienced jockey. But the similarities end here. Cos you don't own the horses and don't get to bring them home when you lose the race ! It's either all or nothing venture. As most seasoned gamblers know, the casinos or racing house has the house advantage so you are bound to lose money based on the probabilities of winning. There lies the huge difference between stocks and horse races. But if u are a horse owner, that would be a different story...:-) |

waterfalls... thanks for your input... :) According to my "Longmans Dictionary of English Language and Culture" ... A punter is: " a person who makes a bet on the result of a horse race". It's not about gambling as such. And there's no verb of "punt". The question then is, can we compare stocks to horses?... :) |

Nice to see friendly banters here, it helps to keep our minds in perspective. Actually, the opposite of investors is speculators - the right term to use. Speculators buy and sell, feeding on rumours with lots of uncertainty which is akin to gambling. Investors as rightly pointed out by our enlightened forummers involve a study of the FA & TA. As for day traders purely on TA, there is really a thin line to separate them from speculators. Right ?

iPunter From MSN thesaurus: Punt (n) Synonyms: bet, gamble, stake, wager, flutter. Anyway, we just have some friendly banters just for fun. I guess u can also retain your nick if you like to pun around here with words. Pun (n) Synonyms: witticism, joke, gag, jest, double entendre, quip, bon mot. Have a great weekend before another richly punting year!

lausk22... hahaha... I am not a gambler at all... I don't believe in gambling like in a casino... when I say take a punt, what I mean is there's reasonable probability or good chance making it. It's nothing like gambling. I study the chart, I consult some indicators, and oscillators if I have time, before I do a punt (sorry I keep on using the word). Then the odds are really in my favour you see. It's really nothing like gambling at all. So how can you ask me to change my name to "gambler"? No way!... hehe... :) |

Wah Mr OOOOOO pretty fierce! He said he don't want to waste time commenting in this forum, yet in an earlier breath he said he visited it often. Sounded rather paradoxical. iPunter how about changing your nick to iGambler ;) or Maverick, the name of the cowboy in the popular western TV series in the 1970s and 80s. It seems to me u don't need to rest. I see u at this forum whenever I login. U are here 24/7;)? |
