Expecting 1Q11 net profit of S$15m Midas is due to announce its 1Q11 results in mid-May 11. We forecast a net profit of S$15m, up 11% qoq and 55% yoy. We expect minimal downside risks to our forecasts as 1Q11 earnings should have been derived from the delivery of existing orders, unaffected by the change in leadership at the Ministry of Railway. We expect the continual ramp-up of its third and fourth production lines to contribute to sequential revenue growth. Its fifth production line is undergoing trial production and thus should have contributed minimally, if any. Though the trial may raise cost of sales, we expect the delivery of some fabricated train car components to slightly lift profit margins. The metro train manufacturer and associated company of Midas, Nanjing SR Puzhen Rail Transport (NPRT), delivered sterling results for FY10, with contributions to Midas growing 180% yoy to S$9.3m, accounting for 15.6% of its pretax profit (7% in FY09). We expect NPRT’s good performance to continue this year given a sizeable order backlog of Rbm6bn-7bn, in our estimation.
