U.S. stock futures slip amid lackluster retail, jobs dataLONDON (MarketWatch) - U.S. stock futures slipped on Thursday amid sluggish back-to-school sales from leading retailers, downbeat jobs data and a profit warning from networking firm Ciena.
U.S. stocks meandered on Wednesday, with the Dow industrials edging up 15 points while the S&P 500 fell 2 points and tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 15 points. Oil fell for the fourth session in a row.
There was a host of data out. First-time claims for state unemployment benefits had their biggest jump in five weeks while ADP's estimate of U.S. private-sector employment fell 33,000 in August.
Adding in some 20,000 government workers typically hired in a given month, the ADP index suggests U.S. nonfarm payrolls fell about 13,000 in August; those numbers are due out Friday.
Also, productivity of U.S. nonfarm businesses was revised higher in the second quarter than previously estimated, to 4.3% from 2.2%.

U.S. stocks slide as global slowdown fearedNEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks on Wednesday veered to a mixed close, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite extending losses into a third day in jumpy trade, as an upbeat report on the manufacturing sector failed to offset worries about a global economic slowdown.
After posting losses much of the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ( Dow Jones Industrial Average Last: 11,532.88+15.96+0.14% 4:30pm 09/03/2008 turned higher as the closing bell neared to end at 11,532.88, up 15.96 points, with 18 of its 30 components gaining ground.

The US stock market is much larger than the Singapore one. Even then, it is not immune to the emotions of fear and greed. The large volatility experienced by the Dow yesterday just reconfirms that rational thinking is thrown out of the window. It is a highly speculative market now.

the lesson here is : you will never know what will happen next..... just like what happen to STI yesterday. for the first 3/4 day STI is below 2700 or even lower... however, just the one and half hour before closing, it surges up.... no body will expect this happen...... anyway, DOW with -26 still not that bad, consider closing flat...... |

OOh... good for my holdings as they might gap up tomolo but for my holding on INDO AGRI... i think i need to hold for years before it recover....
Will Singapore follow D.J trend??? seems there will not be much movement on price but index wise will be at least 0.75% gain?
