CPO movement this morning is impressive, IndoAgri moves up accordingly. But this counter is still lazy, its vol is relatively low almost pushing it out of the top 20 vol list. I guess people bet that the greenpeace is not going to let go this matter easily.

lookin at the way the commodities counters are surging can only mean that we're looking at higher commodities prices due to shortages... means inflation will hit our shores very soon.. |

CPO rises strongly today. I think if it's not because of the greenpeace accusations, it should go further up. Let's see if GoldenAgr can defend well. |

Crude palm oil futures on Malaysia’s derivatives exchange ended mostly higher Friday, inspired by a likely rise in Malaysian palm exports and bullish sentiment amid by fears of weather on crops world-wide, said trade participants. The benchmark October contract on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives exchange ended MYR3 higher at MYR2,517 a metric ton. Traders and shipping executives estimated Malaysia's palm oil exports reached 1.39 million-1.42 million tons in July, 3%-6% higher than the June figures issued by cargo surveyors Intertek Agri Services and SGS (Malaysia) Bhd. last month. The outlook for better-than-expected exports helped CPO futures end above the psychological level of MYR2,500/ton, after prices fell 0.8% to an intraday low of MYR2,495/ton. Palm prices have now risen 7.3% since the beginning of July. Traders are tracking the impact of adverse weather conditions in China, a major vegetable oil consumer; they may step up vegetable oil imports if unfavorable weather hurts domestic crops. In the medium term, exports will "probably be higher from now until September as the weather pattern may force buyers to stock up," said a shipping executive based in Malaysia. The market was also pulled up by poor output growth in the key palm-growing state of Sabah. "Most plantations are suffering due to erratic weather conditions. Production in Sabah is probably going to be flat in July," said a senior trading executive from a Malaysia-based major plantation company that has vast tracts of palm estates in Sabah. "Some of the older palm trees aren't able to withstand the weather stress and produce fewer fruits." In the cash market, palm olein for September was traded at $842.50/ton, free on board Malaysian ports, a Singapore-based broker said. Cash CPO for prompt delivery was offered unchanged at MYR2,600/ton. CME Group Inc.'s dollar-based CPO futures for October contract was trading $7.25 lower at $786/ton compared with Thursday's close at $793.25/ton at 0935 GMT. Rupiah-denominated October CPO futures on the Indonesia Commodity and Derivative Exchange were trading 0.6% lower at IDR6,875 a kilogram at 0934 GMT. Open interest on the BMD was 69,238 lots, versus 69,423 lots Thursday. One lot is equivalent to 25 tons. A total of 17,260 lots of CPO were traded versus 13,047 lots Thursday.

On Thursday, Golden Agri rebounded off the support at $0.555 and closed at $0.57 with non-existence volume of 25.4 million shares traded. A candle stick with long upper shadow indicates that the momentum of rally has subsided with investors no longer have any interest in this counter. Both RSI & MACD are going flat as MACD line began to converse together. Important Resistance of Golden Agri: $0.58 Immediate Support of Golden Agri: $0.555 Currently the prices are supported by the technical/ 20/100 days MA at $0.555. Although Golden Agri continue to trend upwards using the rising trend line as the support but we would not advise to enter unless the gap resistance at $0.58 can be broken at high resistance. SEE ANALYSIS ON INDOAGRI On the other hand, do consider to take profit once the support at $0.555 is breached. |

http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/sub/latest/story/0,4574,397174,00.html? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Indonesian Sinar Mas-linked firms cutting virgin forest JAKARTA - Greenpeace on Thursday issued fresh accusations that palm oil firms linked to Indonesian agribusiness giant Sinar Mas have bulldozed rainforest and destroyed endangered orangutan habitats in Kalimantan. Sinar Mas group's palm oil unit, PT Smart Tbk lost top customers Unilever and Nestle after earlier Greenpeace allegations of virgin forest destruction. Smart has promised to stop clearing high conservation value forests, a technical forestry term meaning forests that shelter endangered species or provide valuable natural services such as trapping climate-warming greenhouse gases. Smart said it will publish an audit of its operations on Aug 10. Smart manages Indonesian palm oil firms, PT Agro Lestari Mandiri (ALM) and PT Bangun Nusa Mandiri (BNM). The parent company for Smart, ALM and BNM is Singapore-listed Golden Agri-Resources, which is part-owned and led by the Widjaja family that controls Sinar Mas. Greenpeace said in a report released on Thursday that aerial photographs taken in July by their own photographers, as well as by a Reuters photographer, showed that ALM was still clearing carbon-rich peatland forests in Ketapang district, in Indonesia's West Kalimantan province. 'What we found was that, despite their commitment, high carbon destruction is still going on,' said Greenpeace forest campaigner, Bustar Maitar. 'This is still happening, even while their auditor is writing the report.' Enormous amounts of greenhouse gases are emitted when peatland forests are cleared and drained. Their preservation is seen as crucial to preventing runaway climate change. Greenpeace also published photographs which it said showed BNM clearing in an area in Ketapang that was identified by the United Nations Environment Program as habitat for highly endangered orangutans. Fajar Reksoprodjo, a spokesman for Smart, told Reuters that all concessions it operated were granted by the government. 'We are working based upon what the government has allocated for us. Presumably the issuance for that is because it's not deemed by the government as high conservation value,'he said. He said that in the past, aerial photographs that appeared to show clearing in peatlands had been misinterpreted. 'What was thought by layman's or non-expert eyes was peat, turned out to be mineral soil. It has the same colouration.' Smart originally said it would release its audit in July but delayed it to the second week of August because it was not yet finished. The auditors are paid by Smart and were selected in collaboration with Unilever, which chairs the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), an industry body made up of producers, consumers and non-government organisations. Agribusiness giant Cargill has threatened to delist Sinar Mas as a supplier if the RSPO validates allegations of improper land conversion in earlier Greenpeace reports. |
