Already sold. This counter is getting more risky each day. And it may even get kicked out of the STI component. |

DJ MARKET TALK:Costs Remain N/T Risk For S'pore Rail Firms - OCBC
Dow Jones Newswires | 07 Sep 2010 8:47am
0047 GMT [Dow Jones] Singapore's S$60 billion investment over next decade to double rail network capacity positive for SMRT (S53.SG), ComfortDelgro (C52.SG) in long term, but rising costs will continue to inflict short-term pain on both operators, says OCBC Investment Research. Notes SMRT's June-quarter results hurt by significant losses from shortfall in ridership on Circle Line, plus higher electricity, staff-related expenses; "short-term challenges are likely to persist, until the operators capture enough ridership, with the progressive opening of the new lines, to cover the increased operating costs." Says longer-term outlook more bullish as government will be adding more trains, upgrading existing systems, installing more lines. Rates SMRT at Hold with S$2.16 target; ComfortDelgro not rated. SMRT ends down 0.5% at S$2.06 yesterday, ComfortDelgro off 0.6% at S$1.53. (frankie.ho@dowjones.com) |

The solution to fuel shorter scare has already been there don't know how many umpteen years ago. Greed is the only reason for preventing it from being materialized!

How to give the exact time of arrival and departure??? when : Are singaporeans educated in 'using the roads in singapore'? Bus Drivers have to take care of so many unpredictable incidents happenings DAILY, while driving the big buses . These unpredictable incidences could slow down the arrival/departure time at the bus terminals. 1) Pedestrains any how cross the roads, never bothered to use overhead bridge, zebra crossing or traffic lights, unless bus drivers allowed to drive thru these people and knock them down without going to prison or being sentenced to death,, you cant guarantee a pucture arr/dep time at bus terminal 2) Falling trees, heavey traffic jams, due to road accidents etc...............unpredictables. 3) Ours is a small land and with so many traffic lights (designed to be used by pedestrains, but, most failed to use them), and ERP, etc, comparing to other cuontries , they have more straight roads and straight roads are easier to be monitored. 4) Bus drivers have to make sure pedestriasn seated down before he could move the bus off, if not, complaints will be lodged against them.
Its hard to be a bus driver!!!!!

There is only 1 problem left if this happens, which outweighs all other problem. That is how are they going to put a charge meter between your car and the sun? That is the question.

Take the guesswork out of the wait for the bus
I refer to Ms Angie Lim’s frustration over the unpredictable frequency of buses marring the benefits of our new distance-based fares (“New distance-based fare system cheaper but ...” Aug 23). While I can appreciate that traffic delays lead to the unpredictability of bus schedules beyond the terminals, there can be no reason why departure timings at the terminals should be unpredictable. I have on two occasions asked the Serangoon Bus Interchange control office for the departure schedule of a bus service, but the staff refused to provide the information, stating they do not have such a schedule. When pressed further, the officer said that bus arrivals may be delayed, thus affecting departure times. Is there a policy within SBS not to provide bus schedules? How can we claim to have a world-class public transport system when the fundamental element of predictability is absent? In many developed nations, the public bus transport system has arrival and departure times that are exact to the minute, at the terminals as well as at every stop along the journey. Singapore should strive to have the same. Letter from Edm und Leong |
