Singapore Airlines reported that the airline filled 71.1 per cent of the space available on its planes for passengers and cargo in October. The figure was higher than 69.9 per cent recorded in September, but lower than 71.6 per cent in October 2009. SIA said its passenger load for October stood at 79.6 per cent, below the previous month's 80.3 per cent and October 2009's 81.1 per cent. / |

SIA Revenue, Profits and Cash Flow has been declining Year to Year. This is the main reason why I'm staying away from this counter.

SIA Eng? Its possible. There was political pressure to divest not too long ago....but mgmt and board resisted. Now, they may have to do it cos CEO promised $1.00 div payout annually....and looking at earnings, they may not be able to fulfill this promise.....this will give more ammo to proponents of divestment.

IN A sure sign that the economic storm is abating, visitor arrivals in Singapore hit 799,000 in September, representing a 7.1 per cent increase over the corresponding month last year. This is the first growth since visitor arrivals began to dip 15 months ago. Two-thirds of Singapore's leading visitor-generating markets saw growth: in the top 15 arrivals, 10 had gone up. Malaysia, Singapore's third-largest visitor generating market, recorded the biggest increase of 51.2 per cent. Indonesia, Singapore's top visitor market, recorded an increase of 26.8 per cent. The number of visitors from Japan also saw grew for the first time this year - by 7.7 per cent. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said the pick-up was due to the Hari Raya holidays and Japan's five-day Silver Week vacation in September. The 'attractive travel packages and aggressive marketing for the Singapore Grand Prix Season' also made Singapore a favourable destination. The only top-five market that showed negative growth was China - Chinese tourist arrivals fell 11 per cent. |

AIRLINES are reinstating flights which they had cut in the past year and adding more capacity as the aviation industry's turnaround strengthens. The number of weekly flights at Changi Airport hit a record 4,830 this week - 8 per cent more than a year ago - and is expected to increase even further with carriers planning more services in the last two months of the year, a Changi Airport Group spokesman told The Straits Times. Airlines driving the growth include Singapore Airlines' (SIA's) regional arm SilkAir, as well as low-cost carriers Jetstar Asia, Tiger Airways and AirAsia, which focus on destinations within a five-hour radius. |
