Sgshares      ( Date: 20-Oct-2011 20:50) Posted: MIDAS S$0.40-MIDS.SI The Associated Press reported that China’s rail and road building boom is running short of cash and some projects have been suspended as workers and suppliers go unpaid. Many of the 6mln migrant workers employed in China’s railway construction have not been paid for months with some 10,000km of projects halted due to a lack of money. According to My Wang Mengshu, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, contractors also owe huge sums of money to cement and steel suppliers. Last month, spending on railway construction fell 19% yoy due to the suspension or delays in railway projects following a high speed train crash in July’11 and a metro train crash in Sept ’11. China’s well-known financial magazine Caijing recently reported that railway and highway construction projects face pressure to repay loans to banks that they would normally expect to roll over as banks tighten lending in China. The above suggests that investors should not attempt to bottom-fish yet, notwithstanding its depressed share price.
