Great question and good to hear you managed to semi-retire early. Serves to remind me why i spend so much time poring over my investments every week. Some things I'd like to do when I retire: 1. Catalogue my DVD collection (which is numbering about 500+ at the mo) 2. Travel to Anfield at least twice a year. 3. Travel to attend a football World Cup tournament instead of relying on toothpicks to keep awake for the telecasts. 4. Improve my golf. 5. Finally be able to spend more time on this forum chatting with the posters and bitching about lousy companies together. Cheers

Will do some of everything suggested so far. Travel twice a year for 30 days each. Doesn't have to expensive places but to get to know the country more in depth such as Asean (yes, Malaysia included), East Asia and India Subcontinent etc. Will certainly invest and watch the market still, but less intense I guess. This will certainly helps to keep myself mentally active. Will continue to read books, do exercise. Seriously, if one is unfit at old age, there's no golden years to speak of. Will pore through the stamps I've collected and take more photos. One thing I will not do is to volunteer to look after grandchildren! (am mid 40's now... when is retirement?!) |

i dont mind travel there for a holdiay but i wont consider migrating to other countries at this point. i like the economic, political stability here, no natural disastrous, good education system and low crime rate. Now adays I exercise alot more than before just to kill time.

6 months to a year should be sufficient for one to travel to a lot of countries, if one has not seen much before.. But with tours so common, one need not wait till retirement to travel. After all, if one is still not tired of 'travelling' by retirement, one can still devote their whole reiirement to ' travelling'. For those who are tired of 'travelling', more mundane activities must be indulged in, such as rearing kois, or breeding dogs, etc...

How about spending some years to finish all the movies one missed before retirement, Or re-cataloging your own butterfly collection? Or catching up on all those great books... Or simply absorb all the classical pieces while waiting for the fish to bite?... Where is there enough time for all these things, just to name a few? hehehe... |

I thought of migrating to either Canada / Australia. Staying by the Countryside, spend my time growing some crops & veggies, fishing by the river and trekking in the greenery forest. The air is so fresh and life is so peaceful.......Sound too good to be true.. Hehe... |

Look at the news. $10k combined salary "qualify" you for a new EC which I estimate would come out to about minimum $700k in future. But what is the reality out there? For young couples to have a property of that amount, want 2 children , a car and that $10k is actually not a very big sum......

It won't be easy to "retire" here without any real work. If you don't plan to work, it is important to know how much one need to retire with no work
