With close to three decades' experience in the cabling industry, LanTroVision's executive director Chan Thye Yuan can remember a time when the entire NOL building on Alexandra Road, with its 26 storeys, needed only about 200 cable connections. "Today, in the same building, there will be at least 2,000 connections," he says. That huge jump in the need for the cable connections is the result of the increasingly pervasive use of technology in businesses, both large and small. The mere 200 connection points that NOL relied on all those years ago essentially linked up "dump" terminals, used only for entering and calling up data. Today, desktop or laptop computers used in most offices are also sophisticated communication devices that are constantly hooked up to corporate networks and the internet, increasing the need for cable connections substantially. LanTroVision, a cabling specialist that Chan established in 1990, is benefiting from this trend. The company installs, maintains and provides support services for structured cabling systems, which are basically the primary cabling systems that support voice and data communications within a local area network. For instance, the Singapore Management University has a cable network, installed by LanTroVision, that links its six buildings. For its fiscal year to June, LanTroVision posted a 164.7% jump in net profit to $13.5 million from 5.1 million previously. This was on the back of a 40.3% rise in revenue to $114.1 million, the first time group revenue surpassed the $100 million mark. Chan says driving that growth is stronger economic activity in Singapore, where about half of LanTroVision's revenues were generated in FY2007. For one thing, the economic growth and the accompanying construction boom have resulted in several new office buildings being built that now require structured cabling. The completion of One Raffles Quay, for example, substantially boosted revenues at LanTroVision as the company did the structured cabling for the entire South tower and 70% of the North tower. Many companies are also choosing to move offices - sometimes to cheaper premise because of rising rentals, and sometimes to more salubrious offices because of higher earnings. Whatever the case, each time companies move offices, it is usually necessary for the entire structured cabling systems to be reinstalled, Chan says. Companies in the financial services sector are an area of particular strength for LanTroVision, and have been especially prone to moving offices recently, contributing almost two-thirds to the company's earnings over the past year. Troubled past But the better earnings have gone largely unnoticed by the market. Since LanTroVision announced its results in August, the stock has barely budged, and trading volumes contribute to be relatively low. The shares closed last Wednesday at six cents a share, below its net asset value (as at end-June) of 7.8 cents a share. Part of the season for the lack of interest could be LanTroVision's troubled past. The stock had soared as high as 27.6 cents in December 2003 before it plunged in September 2004 after the company announced it was being investigated by the Commercial Affairs Department for alleged insider trading. This was followed by the announcement of a net loss of $8.3 million for FY2005, owing largely to debt provisions. Chan casually brushes aside LanTroVision's past difficulties. Although the company's net profits over the last decade have been volatile, he points out that revenue has consistently increased almost every year. In fact, the average annual growth rate in revenue over the last nine years has been just over 20%. Chan attributes the losses that the company made previously to provisions made for a customer. LanTroVision had in 2003 secured a contract worth about $26 million to install wireless broadband gear for a customer in Malaysia call AtlasOne, a provider of broadband services. But AtlasOne subsequently faced financial difficulties and had trouble making payments. Now the LanTroVision has put those issues behind it, Chan says the company is on track for greater profitability. Growing globally Chan is expanding LanTroVision's operations worldwide. In the last two years, the company has been exploring new geographical territories such as HongKong, China, Vietnam, South Korea and, most recently, India. "It's more a function of the expansion of our customers, "says Chan, referring especially to financial services companies. " As they have opened new offices in these countries, they have also asked us to go there." Meanwhile, Chan says, the company hopes to formalise more agreements for its partnership platform, dubbed LanTro Global Alliance Partners. The platform, which operates in a similar way to code-sharing by air-lines, allows LanTroVision to gain customer referrals from partners in Australia, Europe or the US that don't have a base of operations in Asia and vice versa. In its global expansion, LanTroVision will also be aided by internationally recognised certifications, Chan says. The Building Industry Consultancy Service International (BiCsi), a professional institution that supports the information transport systems industry worldwide, recently awarded LanTroVision a BiCsi Prestige Consultant Platinum ceritificate, the highest level attainable. One of the requiremenys for the award is to have at least three certified Registered Communication Distribution Designers (RCDD). LanTroVision has five, including Chan. The passing rate for this certication is lower than 15%, Chan says, and LanTroVision is currently the only cabling installer in Asia with this many RCDD-certified employees. "Some company only have one, and most don't have any at all," he adds. LanTroVision has also cleaned up financially. This year, the company raised $4,5 million in a rights issue, which it has used top pay off its bank debts. LanTroVision is now in a net cash position, with $24.8 million in cash and cash equivalents as at end-June, which Chan says will put the company in a good position to fund expansion. Over time, the company also plans to look at ways to return excess cash to shareholders. A share buyback mandate was recently approved at a shareholders' meeting. For Chan, the process of steering LanTroVision to where it is now has been a crash course in corporate management. When he started LanTroVision, most of his time was spent actually doing the cabling jobs. These days, his entire workday is devoted to setting the direction for the company, expanding its customer base and dealing with training issues. And, if he's learnt his lessons well, LanTroVision might well be able to make the most of the current boom in demand for its services. x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	if u look at the historical price of this counter - this counter does not move too much ...  must prepare to hold for medium to long term. i guess this counter would not move too drastically unless it has news like it has been awarded with ir contract (involve in cabling)  or bb decide to play with this once in a blue moon ... so far, since the exercise of the rights -  i am quite content with it. just let it be ...  slow & steady.

I'm working in a IT environment and knows that Lantro had done alot of project for the financial institution especially the banking sector. Thus, i had vested in Lantro on a mid to long term basis. I suppose when the construction mkt is in play again ... then Lantro will move .... Also, i dun understand why Lantro does not announced the projects they undertake .... this will definetly create awareness .... Well, juz have to wait just like the other time when it was hovering at 0.055 ...... and then suddenly shook up, but i personally felt that this penny stock is worth waiting.
