Haha... not surprising that it has low volumes. The entire stock market in Singapore is sleepy today. |

the decision has no effect because soup has no liabilities and the growth could be cash-flow-financed. i think the liquidity is a problem. we have much higher volumes in germany than in singapore, but the liquidity is not high enough. |

Indeed, the decision had no effect :-( Maybe one day the company will be known by investors and the stock will start to behave a bit more rationally and with more liquidity. |

@jupp77: Soup is supposed to be a bit more upmarket than DXE. DXE's signature dish I think is duck, while at Soup it's the chicken. DXE is a bit cheaper but somehow has higher margins that soup. I often see business people eating at Soup during lunch time (or large groups celebrating birthdays!), while at DXE there are more families and young couples. |

as long as soup gets this high net operating margin (actual it is about 12%) they can (have to!) open a lot of restaurants. the net operating margin is a sign for the strength of competition in an industry sector. I see a great potential for growth. what is the difference between soup and dian xiao er restaurants? (food, locations, customers, prices etc.?) |

@Jupp77: sorry for late response. I'm here in Singapore now but have lived in many different places. I agree with your comments about DXE, it could be a good strategy as long as they don't eat into each other's profit. The key here is that DXE targets a different consumer than Soup so should be fine, and the menus are quite different. Also, Soup has more bargaining power when dealing with mall owners that way because it can open 2 outlets instead of 1 and attract more traffic. About the 50% ownership, I think it's because Soup bought the chain from the previous owners who are still very involved in running DXE. It may be a good way to keep them motivated to develop DXE. But if Soup stock keeps going up, they might be willing at some point to exchange the remaining of their ownership in DXE for Soup stock...but I'm just speculating here. |

in the gastronomy business there is a cutthroat competition. i think it is better to open restaurants side by side before a competitor will take place. have a look at starbucks, in some cities they opened cafe side by side just to prohibit that an other competitor take place. as long as the several restaurants runs profitable it is a good strategy. it is a pity that soup only on hold 50, x% f&b. |

If they put DXE and Soup outlets near each other, wouldn't they be competing against one another?? |

In November 2006 Soup Restaurant acquired 50.98% equity interests in Y.E.S F&B Group. Y.E.S F&B Group operates the Dian Xiao Er (DXE) Restaurants. |

i also think that the investor relation and the public relation have to be improved. it would be a great thing if the public will be informed about new openings. @tigertrader: where are you from? |

This is great news (the DXE opening), the company should be more vocal about these new store openings, it's hard for ppl like me to find out about it! Thanks for sharing. Based on my revised estimates, the stock trades at a PE of 8x...not very high for such a well-run operation. The DXE location will be a great complement to the Soup at Changi. Hopefully (for me) they won't have the same long queues I'm excited about the current share price since it's going up, but I really think the company has the potential to trade at 0.50 and above, if they keep executing and are more open with investors. |
