Thanks very much to Laulan for the explanation on how to calculate dividends yield and ROE. I think debts are not deducted from the shareholders' equity. For the balance sheet, the total assests of the company must equal to the total liabilities plus total shareholders' equity. This is precisely why it is called a balance sheet showing how the total assests is distributed among total liabilities and total shareholders' equity. Total assets = Total liabilities + Total shareholders' equity So, the total shareholders' equity does not include any liabilities at all and can be safety used to calculate the returns on equity. This measure returns on equity is a good measure because it measures how well the company has used it's equity (money) raised from all shareholders thus far. We as investors find it difficult to track what the company does in the process of it's operations and how it uses the funds raised from the shareholders, but at the end of the year during the annual reporting of results, the returns on equity will speak much of whether the company has used the total shareholders' funds (raised since day one of IPO and subsequent equity raising exercises) until now carefully to profit it's shareholders. A consistently high ROE (at least 20% or more) means the company is able to keep it's business operations profitable for the amount of funds raised from its shareholders. If the ROE deteroriates over a good number of years, then the company is lousy since it cannot maintain profitability for it's shareholders. Somemore, if the company has in recent years keep raising equity from it's shareholders and the ROE still cannot maintain or grow for a few years since equity raising (e.g. rights issue), then this suggest that the equity raising exercise may not be justified since the company has failed to use the equity raised from shareholders to profit them. A consistent lousy ROE (less than 15% over a few years) cannot be tolerated at all since company should use shareholders' funds carefully to benefit them and not waste it away resulting in lousy profitability in the business operations. This kind of company is not worth a second look (a company that deteroriates their ROE consistently over a few years). <Lastly, I agree with Laulan that one should not look at only one financial ratio to judge a company. LauLan rasied a good point about debts of a company. A company with good ROE and also has minimal short-term and long term liabilities and debts compared to it's total assests is always a good selection. For this, one can look at the gearing of the company. So, a very high ROE and very low gearing makes an excellent company. It is just simple common sense that with little debts and high returns on shareholders' funds that will make an excellent company.> |

OK. Dividend yields is calc as follows: 100*Annual Dividends / Market Price In this case 0.005 div / 0.06 px multiply by 100 percent equals 8.33 pc. So the yield is 8.333
As for ROE, it is calculated : 100*Net Income /Shareholders Equity, giving ROE in percentage value.
I heard ROE is not a good measure unless it is used in connection with other ratios, because ROE can be misleading if the debts are high since debts are deducted from the equity and thus resulting in a lower denominator giving higher values to ROE. Better alternative is using the Returns on Invested Capital ratio.

And more important: the payback in dividends. The recent payout was about more than 11pc of the last close of 4 cents. This counter pays every year. I think it can grow your money if you are not gambling but investing be it $400 or $4K invested. . Beware anyway it is not actively traded because I think it is a cornered stock. No play at all. Unlike US where IT stocks are now very in demand.

Hi, avid Azeus investors, let me give you some good news on this counter. From a recent email by the Group Financial Controller in response to my query, Azeus reconfirmed its strong fundamentals. For the first half of FY2009, the Group registered an across-the-board increase in revenue from the Group’s three core businesses. As a result, Group revenue increased 3% to HK$35.5 million. Despite facing stiff challenges, a new HK$26.6 million contract was secured with one of the departments of the Hong Kong Government, as well as two small-scale contracts worth HK$8.0 million in 1HFY2009. Going forward, the Group's focus will remain on reaffirming its position as a leading provider of IT consultancy services to the Hong Kong public and it looks forward to harnessing more opportunities with the Hong Kong Government to further establish its foothold in the area of specialization. It aims to continue to improve market visibility by keeping an open dialogue with the investing community and by organising regular briefings with the financial and investment community. Azeus will also keep shareholders updated of the company’s developments through appropriate channels of communication such as SGXnet announcements and news releases on major developments, annual report, etc. It assured shareholders that the fundamentals of the Group are strong and management is committed to enhancing shareholder value. Note: I am just sharing information and it is up to you to decide on your own investments. Cheers. |

Azeus to play between 12 cents to 16 cents in the lack of any news. Have to see its second half before we can see its true direction. |

I believe this counter is good for growing your small money into big amounts later on. Though it is a profitable company, there is little play because people are more attracted to quick price fluctuations where they can go in and out to make money. Maybe people have forgotten about it. Can pick up 10 to 20 lots once in a while. Treat it as a savings for future. I'm sure it will pay off. |

Hi Pyslliswen, I checked the dividends from the sgx website. The dividends for this year payable next month is HK$36 per lot or approx $7 per lot. At today's price of 17.5 cts, the dividend yield is 4 per cent. The fig is derived this way: Today's price: 1000 shares cost $175.00 Dividend is $7.00 per 1000 shares. 7 X100 /175 = 4% |

How unlucky you. *wink* But really, there will never be a good time to buy. I'll look it tonight and if its year to year and pops a 3% up div yield with good bid/sell volume, I may consider. Thanks for posting/sharing this company. |
