Lian Beng's 9-mth net profit up, drops suit against Manhattan

Lian Beng Group Ltd reported on Tuesday that its net profit for the nine months to February 28, 2011 rose 111 per cent from a year ago to S$36.63 million.

 

Revenue was up 58 per cent at S$379.94 million.

The strong revenue growth was mainly due to higher revenue recognition from on-going construction projects, as well as contribution from its property development and ready-mixed concrete businesses. The construction segment continues to be the group's major revenue contributor, accounting for about 85% of its total revenue.

The company did not provide breakdown for the third quarter.

Lian Beng said in respect to its law suit against Manhattan for outstanding debt amounting to $9.4million, it has received S$7.4 million. It has also filed a Notice of Discontinuance against Manhattan.

Initiate with Buy and target price of S$0.50.
We initiate coverage of Lian Beng with a Buy recommendation. We like the company for its strong pipeline of projects and healthy order-book growth. Our target price of S$0.50 is based on 9x CY11 P/E, a 10% discount to our target multiple for Yongnam, as Lian Beng, being a general contractor, has greater exposure to the cyclical nature of the construction industry. Stock catalysts could come from further construction contract wins, in our opinion.

Strong pipeline of projects.
In the past two months alone, Lian Beng has secured three contracts worth S$317m for the construction of residential properties . The latest wins have brought its order book to S$915m. At such levels, we believe it has one of the largest order books among construction firms in Singapore. With an anticipated recovery in construction demand in 2010, we believe Lian Beng’s order book can top S$970m by end-2010.

 

Property development business doing well.
Lian Beng is involved in four property development projects: Lincoln Suites, 111 Emerald Hill, Kovan Residences and OLA Residences. Three have achieved healthy ASPs to date with good take-up, while the 111 Emerald Hill project has not been launched. We estimate that Lincoln Suites is 50% sold, and Kovan Residences and OLA Residences 70-90% sold.

Healthy operating cash flows and reduced gearing
With a positive business outlook, we expect Lian Beng’s operating cash flows to remain healthy over FY10-12, at S$38m-44m. With healthy operating cash flows, we expect the group to pare down its borrowings, reducing its net gearing from 72.4% in FY09 to about 43% in FY10.

I bought it at 0.33 last time when it announced last year finance report. Then the share drop to 0.270-0.28 after 1 or 2 week after the announcement. Today volume is very high with alot of sell & buy trading at 0.335. For safety reason , i decided to sell all my lian beng stock @ 0.335 .
