ipunter I guess we are talking abt diff style of managing stock... there are pro & con either way in diff situation... as long one is comfortable with their investment strategy. Being your own personal private investor, you are the only one who is accountable for your own $$$ Of course we can always support/oppose one another way of trading... but we take no responsibility for what ever they own/lose rite? ^^ |

iPunter, yeh... you will get to supreme soon too by splitting up every sentence into one post... 5 sentences and you get 5 posts. Another 5 sentences add up to another 5 posts. I sure hope each post contains more "meaty" stuff. When I was younger, I often travelled past a Bendeemeer secondary school (or another school, memory not very reliable these days). On the school's main building, a large print of the school's motto ( i guess) which I like. It says "To each his own". Everyone has their own trading philosophy and if they swear by it, they must have their own reasons. So why push when one is happy to earn whatever she's happy with. |

Nope. Acc/Dist charts are usually pretty stable. |

But by your method, wouldn't you be making a lot of 'false exits', since in reality, there are many trends and countertrends of various durations in existence at any one time? |

What so wrong to have a trend being confirmed? One lesson I learnt through the hard way is to never try to catch a valley or peak. With these rules, I make profit of about 10-15% for every good trade while limiting my losses to about 3-5% for the bad ones. |

On the other hand, my rule of exiting at or before a resistance level can be considered more "rigid" than one suggested by maybe a few 'conflicting' and unreliable indicators... |

In other words, to me, your rule is not "rigid" at all, since you will have to depend on the trend having been confirmed to have turned before you act... and for that to happen, you would have lost a substantial portion of the profit. |

But I don't understand... By your method of exiting, wouldn't it be too late and the price has gone too far down before you dump it? You'll lose much of the profits, (if any) I mean especially if many indicators are lagging in nature... |

iPunter... yup... I rely on rigid rules rather than targets to exit. |

Singaporegal... :) oic... now I understand your method/style better... You are a 'trend rider' who gets out once you detect a trend reversal. I also agree this is a wonderful method to profit from our trend riding. Personally, my targets are very rigid. I set a specific target based on trendline projections, for example, and get out there at all costs, regardless of what else is happening in the market. |

pikachu... hahaha... :) I don't mean to imply that you are totally new to TA... Just my way of being 'a bit crude', you see... (you can also say it's for some 'stage effect' ..hehe) ... Since there are so many stocks which I just 'scan' through, and NOL is not one which I am particularly interested in, my drawing of the trendlinesis just in response to your earlier request for my comments. So its accuracy may be not be as good as one in which more careful attention is devoted to it, eg. yours. But I think you should have the idea. |

Howdy iPunter! Of course I know what trendlines are and also the basic indicators... I'm just curious how you do your trading and entry and exit points because you claim to only use visual means. That's why I ask you how you draw the trendlines for NOL. Can share with me? |

iPunter.... I do not use targets because I follow the trend. I will exit when the signals change or when the price suddenly drops below 3-5% of its previous high. |

Singaporegal... If I am not wrong, I may have read in one of your posts that you don't go for targets (eg profit-taking target). Is that the case? If so, then what method do you use to exit with a profit? |

On the contary, I use trendlines all the time. I use them on price charts, Acc/Dist, Chaikin charts etc. |

Strictly speaking, you should base your entry/exit price on the lines and not a 'ball-park figure'. In any case, depending on the the drawing method and chart scale used, there can be some +/- variation from individual to individual. |

If you 'play about' with the trend line cursor, you will be able to get at least a few trendlines in a chart. I believe Singaporegal specialises only in indicators. |
