China final HSBC PMI at 50.1 in AugustChina's final HSBC PMI came in at 50.1 in August, data showed on Monday, unchanged from the flash reading and up from an eleven-month low of 47.7 in July, in further signs that the economy is stabilizing. The data follows China's official PMI figure out over the weekend, which showed China's factory activity expanded to 51 in August from 50.3 in July, the highest level since last April. The official index monitors larger, state owned enterprises, as opposed to the HSBC index which looks at small and medium sized enterprises. The strong pick-up in the world's second largest economy's manufacturing sector will help ease worries that the country will see a sharp slowdown this year. Several economists and investment banks have revised down their growth forecasts for China this year, with some seeing growth fall below 7%. |

Nikkei Opens Higher On Wall St Gains, Dlr's RiseTOKYO (NQN)--Tokyo stocks are up Friday morning, with the Nikkei Stock Average rising 113 points at the open, hovering at the upper-13,500 level.Buying on the Tokyo market is being fueled by overnight gains on the Dow Jones industrial average, as an upward revision to April-June U.S. real GDP figures and eased concerns over U.S. military intervention in Syria encouraged U.S. markets. The dollar's strengthening to the lower-98 yen range is also contributing to buying sentiment in Tokyo. Exporters and blue chip stocks are especially benefiting. |

Stocks Fall To Two-Month Low Amid Concerns Over SyriaTokyo stocks slid to a two-month low Wednesday, extending their losses for the third straight day, as investors fled to safe-haven assets amid a heightened likelihood of U.S. military action against Syria. The Nikkei Stock Average lost 203.91 points, or 1.5%, to 13,338.46 following a 0.7% fall on Tuesday. After falling as much as 2.6%, the Nikkei recovered some of its losses aided by dip-buying and as the dollar regained strength after sinking below Y97 intraday. The greenback was changing hands at Y97.27 at around 0600 GMT. The Nikkei's intraday recovery reflected investors' view that the impact of a Syria intervention on domestic markets will be limited as the military action will likely be short-lived, strategists and fund managers say. " there are still uncertainties about U.S. action over Syria and the market has yet to factor in military response," said Hiroichi Nishi, general manager of equities at SMBC Nikko Securities. Market participants said although a potential military strike is a risk factor, unless it drags on, the market's focus will likely shift back to the recovery in the U.S. economy, what the Federal Reserve is doing and the U.S debt ceiling. |

Nikkei Opens Down As Risk Appetite FadesTOKYO (NQN)--Tokyo stocks sagged at the open Wednesday, with the Nikkei Stock Average falling 257 points to begin the day at 13,285 and adding to those losses in early trade, briefly falling more than 300 points. The benchmark touched the 13,200 line for the first time in four trading days on the back of a 170-point drop in the Dow Jones industrial average overnight as investors braced for the possibility of a U.S. military strike in Syria. That dampened their appetite for risk and the trend is carrying over into the Tokyo market. The dollar fell to the upper-96 yen range, a two-week low, prompting investors to sell exporter shares. |
