Morrison, while you are in  a negative spirit due to the short term loss its probably not a good idea to look at other stocks as your judgement may be impaired. Relook at your long term investment strategy  from the company's fundamentals angle. In time like this, technicals will only screwed your judgement but if know that a company's fundamentals (numbers) are sound, you will  be as steady  as  a rock. During the recent bear, fundamentals was the only pillar that kept  real investors  sane. |

Hi Kilroy, I know I'm posting in a Capitaland thread, but actually i mean i bought Capitamalls Asia and regretted as I couldn't make up my mind whether to go for Capitamalls Asia or Capitaland.   3-4 % fall is not a big problem as i'm investing for long term gain, however, 3-4% fall is within 1-2 days of trade and not over a long term. The fall is probably due to their lesser than expected quarter 1 profit. I just want to know whether this Capitamalls Asia is as fundamentally good as Capitaland.   I am currently accumulating bullets and will try to average down or look at Capitaland if the price does not move much.

Morrison, you have already  concluded for yourself when you posted your comment - "   that's why I chose something more simple and exciting. "   I myself also select  equities which are choose simple for me to understand but not necessary exciting.  I rather play within my boundaries and outside of it.  Here's the consolation for you. You mentioned that your current CAPLAND you are holding  has dropped 4%  from your purchased  price  thus the avg  price you held  is about 3.40/0.96 = 3.5416.  It dropped only 4% and not 40% so I wont worry that much even if you cant DCA it for now. Not sure what  is your trading strategy but I am playing the range. A small and a big range. So to me  your  3.54 is somewhere in my  small  range of 3.6 where I would  sell half my holdings and hope the price will continue to climb for my other half. If you can hold, I think you will be ok. :)

To all fundamental shifus, do you think CMA is a good buy for long term investment (at least 6 months), I was considering CMA and Capland, but regretted choosing the former. I vested all my savings on the day it released it's 1st quarter results (before it was released) and the stock has since dropped 3-4%. Many analysts have set very high TP for these 2 counters (capitaland and CMA), so I hope the shifus here can give me your views because I was really deciding these 2, now I have no more bullets to buy Capland and to switch means I will make a loss. I am sure if I ask this question in CMA thread, people will say it's good. I chose to ask here because there are many experienced Fundamental shifus who can give neutral views here. I've vested heavily in Capland before and have gotten very good dividend, but I now look at their subsidiary because it is more focused, Capland itself is too complicated with too many associates/subsidiaries/affiliates. I somehow feel they have grown too big and diversified into too many property sectors that it is too difficult to manage properly. That is just my personal view, that's why I chose something more simple and exciting. But it's been disappointing so far. |

CapitaLand 1Q net triples to $101.5mCapitaLand (CATL.SI), Southeast Asia’s largest property developer, reported a three-fold increase in first quarter net profit after restating the year-ago figure, helped by higher profits from development projects and portfolio gains. CapitaLand, about 40%-owned by Singapore state investor Temasek (TEM.UL), earned $101.5 million net profit in the three months ended March, up from $29.8 million a year ago. CapitaLand restated its 2010 earnings downwards to make them comparable with its first quarter results that adopted a new accounting standard that took effect Jan 1.   The new accounting rule means CapitaLand’s earnings from overseas development projects can only be recognised upon full completion, resulting in earnings that are more volatile and lumpy.   “We note that home sales in China and Singapore were slow in the first quarter and fell short of CapitaLand’s target...partly due to the new cooling measures (in China) and the Chinese New Year festivities where sales typically slow,” said RBS in a report.   However, Credit Suisse said it expects CapitaLand to book more profits from its overseas projects and higher contributions from CapitaMalls Asia over the next three years to help boost earnings. CapitaLand’s revenue in January-March was $611.5 million, 39% higher than a year ago due to higher contributions from its development projects in Singapore, China and Australia.   At 11:25 a.m., CapitaLand shares were flat at $3.41, compared to the Straits Times Index’s < .FTSTI> 0.45% losses.    CapitaLand shares have fallen about 8% since the start of the year, weighed by concerns that government measures to curb property prices will hurt its earnings.   CapitaLand said its core markets of Singapore, China and Australia accounted for 96% of its group earnings before interest and taxes in the first quarter.   “As we move into our next 10 years of expansion, it is our intention to focus our capital and human resources on building on our success in these core markets by both broadening and deepening our businesses there,” said Liew Mun Leong, President and Chief Executive of CapitaLand in a statement.   The firm has expanded its residential pipeline in China to over 64,000 units, and also plans to build 10,000 to 15,000 low-cost housing units a year in China and Vietnam over the next three to five years, Liew said.   CapitaLand’s service residence arm Ascott Limited plans to redeploy $1 billion in capital to invest in Asia and Europe this year, and targets to have 40,000 units around the world by 2015.    /theedge// ====================================================

Mr.  Isolator, you are confused a bit Lah. Your are myopic (short sighted)while we are presbyopic(long sighted). You have forgotten long term  investor is not bothered by few cents movement , any weakness in the stock is a buying opportunity for us while you get a chance to laugh to the bank if you bet correctly or lose your pant  if bet the wrong way.  Hence no worry if it drop to 3.30 Lah. Just add a little more. Courtesy on this forum shall be our goal and avoid making fun of others. We shall be tolerant  to others` view.

Good insight into china property.   If STI dips to 2900(as  Isolator predicted)  , its time to prepare to buy blue chips (not necessary this one)  to add to portfolio. Newbies can buy other blue chips and not necessary this one  , just 2 lots perhaps?   or few lots to try out.    My friend's son and  his uni   friends have already  started the  opening the bokerage account  buying 1   blue chips and already seeing small profit.

Just returned from Shanghai and spoken to  some property agents. Value housing( 2 types for sale and 2 types for rental only)  cater to low income general public and migrant worker and family )    is a big thing in China now and it is their top priority. It must be  done quickly and by 2015 they plan to build  many many million units to satisfy  the public and to avoid social displeasure. The govt believes this will lessen the gap b/w the rich and poor while still allowing for private luxurious housing to go on to meet the need of the rich. This value housing also will serve as a clever way of  wealth transfer by transferring   the public money to the poor thru subsidized  ppty and rental, thus leaving the general population with enough cash to spend and consume.    It is their HDB project & will go on for many many years. Capitaland recently take stake in Sebana investment. The latter  is our HDB builder owned by Temesek & this is a good indication they are using Sebana expertise in public housing to spearhead its charges into China . In my view, Capiltaland is for long term investment and one can keep buying on weakness to slowly accumulate but do not rush in.

Capland, I think we, the long term investor ,shall leave the short term traders alone as each his own path. The former are holder and has a vision but must be ready to sell if situation changes while the latter are ``casino style `` but not neccessarily reckless trader using thier charts and experience to bet on short term stock movement to make quick profits ( also losses). Many make good money while many many more die without trace. We shall  not be critical as long as they are truthful in their declared victory and not be too arrogant. I last sold my 100,000 lots of Capitalland at $  7.00 before 1997  ( buy at $3.00) with $400,000 profit because I am a long term investor.  Now I see value in capital land again. Keep your vision and stay invested . Leave the trader alone and you will be a happier person.
