sohguanh, I notice that when good results are announced, usually the price will go up in the first few minutes of trading and then come down. Recent announcements by companies with good result and dividends the price went down. Those with poor results, I cannot imagine. |

There is not awareness on Straits Asia's biz model in the market. Global demand for thermal coal is growing after China cut export to meet their domestic demand. The potential for this gem will be discovered soon.... I hope to see it trading at the $1 range in the next 3 -6 mth. -Vested. Coal ship queue hits record at Aussie port (SYDNEY) The queue of ships waiting to load coal at Newcastle, Australia, the world's biggest coal-export harbour, increased to a record 61, lengthening shipping delays and raising costs for producers and buyers of the fuel. The number of ships queuing outside the port in New South Wales state as at early Monday was up from 51 a week earlier, according to data on Newcastle Port Corp's website. Last week, prices of power-station coal exported from Newcastle jumped 2.8 per cent to US$53.39, their highest for almost 10 months, according to the globalCOAL Newcastle index. Australian shipments of thermal coal have risen after China cut exports to meet increasing domestic demand. Almost 90 per cent of coal shipped through Newcastle last year was thermal coal produced in the Hunter Valley by mining companies such as Rio Tinto Group and Xstrata plc. 'I can't ever recall the queue of ships at Newcastle being that high,' said Andrew Harrington, an industry analyst at Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd in Sydney. 'You've got good strong demand for coal. All these ships waiting are probably loading contract coal, so spot coal coming out of Newcastle is probably limited.' Coal ships waited an average of 19 days to load last week, compared with 0.14 days for general cargo ships, Newcastle Port said. The coal ship queue compares with an average of 23 in 2006. The shipping delays are boosting costs for mining companies, Paul Jury, managing director of Resource Pacific Ltd, a Sydney-based producer, said yesterday. Demurrage costs may rise to US$2.50 a tonne for at least this quarter, or longer should the queue not be reduced, he told analysts and reporters in Sydney. Newcastle Port shipped 1.7 million tonnes of coal in the week ended 7 am on Monday, taking the volume shipped so far this month to 2.63 million tonnes. Newcastle Port is budgeting shipments of 6.2 million tonnes for February. The latest increase in the queue of ships at Newcastle may partly be due to a rail strike in Canada that is reducing coal exports from the western coast, Mr Harrintgon said. Mining companies that use the port are considering measures to help reduce ship waiting times, said James Rickards, a Sydney-based spokesman for Xstrata, the world's biggest exporter of thermal coal. Xstrata favours the re-introduction of an export quota system at the port, where capacity is allocated between mining companies, Mr Rickards said on Jan 31. The system was discontinued last year when the majority of mining companies voted against it in September. Resource Pacific is 'a bit cynical' towards that system because it disadvantages smaller producers, Mr Jury said. - Bloomberg |

I dunno if you all notice this trend. On the day financial result is out the share price usually goes up a few cents. Then if you are patient wait a few days the price will come down a few cents before making a steady climb upwards? I was thinking was it contra and shortist at work here again? I observe this same trend for a few stocks that just release financial results. |

Good News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! News said that China's coal contracts for 2007 have been signed recently. The average contract thermal coal price increased by Rmb30/tonne, or nearly 10% yoy, higher than the previous expectation in the market. Among them, contract price of Shanxi coal increased by Rmb40/tonne, ranking the highest in the major coal production provinces. Based on the new contract prices, power companies' margins would be hurt further in 07. Another tariff hike is expected as the increase of contract prices is higher than 8%, which is the point decided by the Chinese government to start a new round of tariff hike. |

Shares of China Coal Energy Co. rose as high as 13.6% in their Hong Kong debut on Tuesday, as investor demand for the country's second-biggest coal miner was muted compared with recent red-hot IPOs. The early performance failed to match that of a trio of deals on Friday that each rose more than 29% in their debuts, with shares of hotel operator Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels jumping 73%. China Coal's rise values its shares around 18.5x 2006 earnings, compared with top China coal producer Shenhua Energy Corp.'s 17.4x forecast earnings. |

Soared on institutional buying ahead of its results yesterday. 'There appeared to be some positive rub-off from the hot upcoming IPO of China Coal (listing in HK) that managed to raise US$1.7b' quipped a dealer. |

Rose after the firm said the Indonesian government had approved the firm's proposed expansion of its coal-mining project in the island of Sebuku. It said that Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources had approved its application to expand the area covered by its coal contract on Sebuku island in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan. The extension area covers about 6,500 hectares, and could increase the total resources at Sebuku from 71 million tonnes to 103 tonnes. |
