Strictly speaking, if you have been around     in this forum, you are not a newbie.           In any case, it is not only newbies                 who lose money in stocks...

Sifu is right...   Newbies should never play CFD at all.     CFD is only for seasoned and experienced           traders who have mastered the intricacies                 of stock trading and chart reading...

It is not that simple...   When a newbie loses money, he/she           will invariably be " mm kam guan" with                   the stock market. Then he'she will try                         and win back th elost money.                                   This is precisely also the reaon                                           why people do averaging down...

With CFD, newbies will be even more daring.     Somewhat similar to newbies playing warrants.         They don't realise the leverage can finish them                 in little time...

First of all, stock playing is a commitment to risk.     If your $5000 is set aside for long-term           investment, which means to say come what               may, you will not need to use it for expenses,                   you can think of buying 5 lots of a stock prices @ 1.00.                         As many good stocks have already fallen quite a lot,                                 you are at least assured that you will not be buying                                       at very high prices. But no one can tell whether the                                               market will go down some more at a later stage.                                                       All in all, stock playing is about taking risks.                                                               Learning some chart techniques will be useful... |

yishun,  i'm  very newbie to advise you...  but hor if i were you  I will  ask myself this 'What is  there left to buy when the entire market has already ran up for qtr close window dressing? Not scared the mkt undress huh,  are you  mentally prepared for it?' If you lose $500, that's already 10% of  your portfolio and its real easy to lose a few hundred bucks on a single  trade.
