cks, fairygal, I have a feeling you are looking at the wrong tree/s. Figs grow out from the trunks about a metre or so from the ground. The tree is about 7-8 ft in height with large roundish leaves. ( I believe ADAM used them). It is a shady tree. As I said, you will find 5-6 trees in the Changi General hospital grounds. I take a SBS No. 9 bus from my place at the Bedok Stadium. As it turns round from Simei Ave., to go to the first stop for the hospital, the trees are aound that corner, in the hospital grounds, across from the A&E, you will see them, although they are away from prying eyes. |

Dear fairygal.. ok I go and have another look... there are actually a few carparks opp ROM, three down the slope nearer former Asia Civilisation Museum building (going to be Peranaka Museum). Adjunction to ROM are two car parks. Relative to the ROM building would it 30meters (or ?m) away? What would be the height of this fig tree? |

cks, Nope. You've got the wrong tree I think. I went down to check on the status of the fruits and it's there on Tues! Some green, some pinkish! However, you really need to see carefully, cos it's small and high up on the tree. Not directly in front of the ROM. It's in the carpark opp ROM, and within the carpark, it's in the middle on a slope. Not properly groomed around, like some tiny piece of forest! Yes, you are right. The Cantonese add these figs with chicken to boil soup.....yummy and nutritious! |

Chinkiasu... :) ... I can see you are the intellectual type who also probes deeply into things you believe in. Thanks for the explanation of the word meanings. (I myself have so many dictionaries of all sizes which I have accumulated through the yich are ears and which I am too lazy too use). Personally, I am the least interested to change others to my way of seeing things (beliefs). One can argue and split hair until the devils come home, yet can't agree a molecule. All of us have beliefs which are the result of our past experience in living. So the longer we live, the more we learn (hopefully) ... |

And now for my dear Mani, I am using a separate reply to your post on this subject. It would appear to me that you keep wanting to discuss about this topic but I let me throw you some comments and questions. First I thank you for your kind words "Your faith is obvious... and that is something so personal to the individual...that no one should attempt to 'shake' that belief on a personal level. "; But I have to point out that this statement is actually irrelevant. I am not the one to initiate discussion on this subject and have not nor is there any need to prove my faith nor am I worried about anyone trying to attempt to " 'shake' that belief ". As you said that you "do not know the actual definition of the terms "Agnostic or Atheist" "... I should state it for you: An Atheist is a person who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods. An Agnostic is a. One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God. b. One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism. pls note that an agnostic does not deny the existence of God and heaven but holds that one cannot know for certain whether or not they exist. The term agnostic was coined by the 19th-century British scientist Thomas H. Huxley, who believed that only material phenomena were objects of exact knowledge. Mani... given the above defination how should we interpret your statement that "I would object strongly to being labelled as agnostic/atheist"?
Secondly, when you say and I quote: "On the question of believing in things, if something is one's chosen belief, then one must not question further to 'know the truth'...Because the very nature of belief itself forbids further questioning..." I disagree with the statement. Believing in God does not mean commiting intellectual suicide and does not mean that one should stop questioning. When you say "I am very much into living the ideas of Buddhism and the Tao itself, especially the latter, since its principles are universally applicable and thus everlasting" are you not making an assumption and holding a belief ? Is this consistent with your statement and I quote " Though I am not a believer in an external 'supreme living person' out there, I am very much into spiritual living as a person, as opposed to unquestioning belief in any propounded ideas." btw what is "spiritual living" does this mean you have a spirit or is this not a belief ? |

EastonBay....at your request how about these verses... When the market is a sea of red Please don?t fret But take time to lay your bet On whatever good stock you can get Do not forget High prices need to correct Back to certain level that?s not bad Then bargain stocks will be widespread For clever savvy fishermen to catch So again, please don?t fret This is a golden time to make extra bread When the market is a sea of red! |
