Here's an analysis about QE2 that I just read: There have been estimates that the market has discounted a QE2 of between $500 billion and $1 trillion. Let's go through the scenarios: Too Little -- The Fed has almost guaranteed a QE2, so doing nothing seems off the table. $500 billion in my mind has been fully discounted. $500 billion will create a sell-off in commodities and equities. I'm not so sure about Treasuries because that is what the Fed will be buying. Too Big -- more than $1.5 trillion. Gold (GLD), silver (SLV), oil (USO), and Treasuries (TLT) rocket higher. Equities jump, but it might be a headfake. If the Fed thinks things are that bad, there might be second thoughts on owning equities. Just Right -- $750 billion to $1 trillion. That's my "just right." I think Treasuries rally, but I'm not sure about gold and equities. In any case, at 2:14 p.m. next Wednesday, if you have to own anything, Treasuries look the safest. Anything else could see some serious volatility. However, there's one more possibility and it might be the highest probability: The Fed comes out and says it will start buying $100 billion a month, but it hasn't decided how big the program will be. Now, nobody will know what to do, but I doubt the markets will handle that calmly. In terms of pure volatility, that could cause some serious whipsaw action. Baring any additional information, I suspect I'll be mostly cash into the event, but possibly with a couple of call/put positions. I can't ever remember an event, potentially market moving, telegraphed this far in advance that has so much uncertainty. Think about your positions this week, and what strategy you want to use. Next Wednesday at 2:00 won't be a good time to mull strategy |

Not sure about the posting time for QE2 announcement. Based on some website that I stumbled upon, their midterm election is Tuesday, (US time) which is today. QE2 is Wednesday, 2:15 (US time)

When in doubt, I will follow tradition. 9 out of 10 times in the past years in the USA, mid-election week is a bullish week. And this week is mid-election week. Most analysts and reports are affirmative of QE2 package. Only question is how much. Most analysts expect a spike in stock markets after QE2. Most analysts expect a sell-off next week, after the QE2 spike. Anticipate the market and follow the most likely path. But be prepared in case the plan goes wrong. If you are prepared for the worst, you will be fine. Example, stop-loss already in place, or hedge position in place. Then you can sleep well at night. Cheers.

I seldom buy Banking DBS,UOB,OCBC... see no much potential...stock price never went up much...oni can take Dividend yield... Rather change to Shipbuilding... KepCorp,SembMar,Yangzijiang,Cosco.... Especially China Gov say they want to become world no:1 shipbuilding and definitely they meant it....Fundamental is there and so is very safe...

sorry hor. it was never my intention to inflict fear upon others. i just airing my views to those who care. i was thinking if i am BB what would i do? pump up the price just before the QE2 to make it look like i the BB am positive about the QE2. but just like everyone else i am also quite uncertain and with massive funds on my hands, i cannot take such a risk. so i just pump it up 1st, then just before the release of the results, i lower my holdings to limit my losses. if positive i will buy back in the morning. if negative at least i limit my losses. so if i am a BB, i will sell my holdings tmr.

STI is still up, so its not QE2. Could be uncertainty about GenSp results. Just be prepared for the unexpected.

No, shipping is a good choice too! So you can have 4 stocks from 4 different sectors. 1) Gaming 2) Agriculture 3) Banking 4) Shipping Cheers!

Ok just had a good dinner with family. Now lets have a short lesson on risk management. 1) One aspect of risk management is to have at least 3 good stocks in 3 different sectors. It is unlikely, all 3 sectors will go down at the same time, so they become hedges against each other. 2) The other way is to have 2 CFD / Warrants accounts. When in doubt of a stock movement, you can hedge your position using your other account. For example, you may have 10 lots of GenSp long position, but you see a black candle today. You can then decide to have 10 lots of GenSp short position using your other account. Once the black candle becomes a white candle again, release the short position. For option 1, these 3 sectors are my personal choices. 1) Gaming 2) Agriculture 3) Banking Cheers.
