Haha... surely a correction (or profit taking) is on the card - what's new??? The question is when??? As for me, I'm just waiting to run (at least 1/2 of my holding) any moment now (watching very closely for signal and my target) .cheers 11111111 |

Hi folks, This is my first posting in this forum. I've noticed the counter lately and keen to enter, but the TA looks increasingly towards O/B (Williams, but RSI also getting close). It has risen quite a bit lately, i am concerned about a temp correction though over these relentless chasing up...(sori dun mean to pour cold water on holders...). I hope i am not overly cautious... |

Good evening Shplayer Veteran, the article is not available on line as I only have the hard copy. The details are reproduced below. Busy time for Rotary - To Chia Kim Piow, the Middle East is hot in more ways than one. He recently discovered that on a business trip to Saudi Arabia. "They wanted to "handcuff" us immediately," says Chia, chariman and managing director of Rotary , a home grown provider of engineering, maintenance and construction services. "They" are not law enforcers but reps of Middle Eastern cos whom he met on the trip. Demand for the sers of Rotary is so high that these cos want to waste no time in getting Chia to commit to joining them, as the flood of new business ventures grows in Saudi Arabia and the region. It was quite encouraging, says Chia. There's a lot of potential; the cos there are very enthusiastic. They want to help set up as their partners, associates. Referring to the boom in demand for hydrocarbon products from China and India, and thus, the scrambling among Middle Eastern oil producers to meet the demand, he says, "I think there are a lot of opportunities for the next 10 yrs." Enough to eat, but still hungry for more - The way Chia sees it, there cld hardly be a better time for Rotary and other local cos in the industry to expand to relatively new mkts like the Middle East. More specifically, Chia hopes to be part of the iPartner scheme, an IE Singapore initiative that brings together cos with different expertise, in the same industry, in a semi-formal grouping, and tackle the same overseas mkts together. He says "I think now is a good opportunity. I forsee that we will be very busy these few yrs. Local cos are very small and if they go alone to mkts like the Middle East, they might not be as successful, as the contracts over there are at least 3 times bigger thah what they've been handling. We have to pool our resources to cater to their needs. Chia, an industry veteran, also believes the current buoyant mkt has helped shape a favourable mindset among local cos. He says the mkt will offer many opportunities for the next 10 yrs, and the next 5 yrs, at least, will be esp busy. This steady stream of business will help keep local cos occupied for now. "Otherwise, if we are hungry, we will always be looking after our own interests - unlike now, when we can be more magnanimous, as we have enough to eat," he says. The cos know they have to look overseas for longer term growth. It is impt that we develop the mkt, because after the current boom, what's next? There has to be continuation in demand for the increase in resources, the manpower that we've already put in, says Chia. Strengths, advantages - Over the yrs, Rotary has been able to weather each cycle and even thrive under Chia's leadership. He believes in opportunity during adversity. When times are bad, he has no qualms abt putting in more investments, such as hiring the required engineering specialists and getting them to prepare to help lift the co to greater heights when the eventual upturn comes. Also, Rotary has been progressively moving up the value chain. Starting out as a small subcontractor, Rotary was able to take on bigger and bigger roles with each upgrade of its capabilities. In recent yrs, Rotary has even tried out a new business model - taking minority stakes in projects that it built, while being in charge of the maintenance and overhaul works. In this way, we create jobs for ourselves, and benefit. So, it's 2 way traffic. That's what we will be doing progressively if the opportunity and project are viable, says Chia. Rotary specialises in servicing the oil, gas, and pharmaceutical industries. It has amassed a full suite of engineering and construction capabilities and Chia believes this is what gives Rotary the competitive edge, esp over other local contractors, which tend to be more specialised. To Chia, most of the competitors are international. We are local and so we have certain advantages. We provide one stop service and we are multi-faceted. We are able to do all kinds of disciplines of work, he says. Headcount challenges - Rotary is certainly no stranger to working in overseas projects. Since the co was founded some 3 decades ago, it has done business in countries and regions like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia,India, China, Australia and even Azerbajian and the Middle East. For now, the co's "headache" is not finding enough new businesses. Instead, Chia finds it difficult to recruit top mgt talent to drive the overseas businesses. This is also the case in Saudi Arabia. Climatic conditions are relatively difficult. We have difficulty in getting top people who are willing to go over there, he says. To mitigate that, we will need to concentrate on what we are doing. We are specialising and resources can come from various partners or a single source. That's why I think this iPartner scheme is very workable; each of us will concentrate on different areas. Realising it was a matter of time before it was hit by the manpower crunch, Rotary had the foresight to set up trg centres in China and India, where it recruits the necessary talent directly form the trg institutes and schools there, instead of trying to find them in the mkt. Perhaps the clearest indication of the co's growth is the projected increase in the no of employees. Chia expects headcount to double to 6,000 within the next 3 yrs. By most accounts, Rotary has grown tremendously and is poised for further growth. Even then, Chia is not abt to hastily expand to as many new mkts as possible, as it still faces that same "happy" problem. We do not have that many resources, but there are alot of opportunities in Saudi Arabia. So, for now, we will just concentrate there. Otherwise, we will be spreading ourselves too thin, says Chia. Most likely, Chia and his team will be getting all "hot" and busy in the Middle East as demand for business grows. |
