Hi fellows: Yippee!! My turn to go on holiday.. Will be missing in action for 10 days or so... (although I doubt I will be missed, haha) as I doubt there is internet connection along Silk Road. Leaving Saturday morning for XiAn and spending a day there. Will be pushing westward starting from XiAn on Sunday onwards till I reach Turpan/Urumuqi at the end of journey. Wish me luck! See ya! |

Lausk my pal:)... . wow, I actually made that kua kee comment without much thinking...and was a neutral statement. Words just rolled off my tongue, not expecting a very cultured reply. I agree with your paragraph: "Besides this interesting and exciting combat that enthralls us everyday, we have many other human engagements - some civil, some subtle, some hypocritical, some comical, some satirical, some tragic, some technical, some wise, some pretentious, some childish, some filial, some magnanimous, some generous, some kind, some one kind, etc. regardless, they made up many entertaining human dramas unfolding in these pages. And that's the reason for many flock to this stage almost daily like addicts to play their role or get their entertainments or education. " cheers. |

Hi Chinkiasu,Eastonbay and bunnie*hugs* The discussion on the direction of the share market movement,be it up, down or side ways will never end.Personally,it comes down to the indiviual. If he or she feels that they have sold off b4 the correction and thus "win" will be very pleased with their decision now. However,by selling off now, they may find that they have to pay a higher px to buy back that same counter few months down the track. Or it may be that they can buy it "cheaper"later on....anyway good luck to them. For me,I go for long term.If the growth and dividend satisfies my criteria,i will keep the counter.Otherwise i will sell and look for other counter. As they say,the one that makes,is the broker. He loves to see u buy and sell all the time. Cheers.... |

sigh. cks, you're an optimist by nature, that's why you're suited for long term FA play. but remember gems tv? but the economy of a country, and the prices of its stocks are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. The open talk of the BBS is actually optimism, but the whisper numbers are the opposite. it's a qn i'm trying to figure out, to be fair: whether asia with its strong economy can be dragged down by the US. but then. that's overstepping the techs. don't actually have to think so hard. forums are full of white noises. in any case, elf has had enough talk. job is imposing frustrating restrictions and i'm going to be out of the country for more than a month. let the market decide the game. at the final bell, if i'm on profit, i pretty much don't give a damn about anything else: it's like you quoted: full of sound and fury, signifying, nothing. |

my dear Lausk22.. life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more... a tale full of sound and fury, signifying nothing... says Macbeth... it is not the life, but what we do with this life, it is also the journey, and for me the destination as well... |

hi, now checking the forum in business lounge.. and couldnt resist a peek at the fellowhip chats.. it has hot up since Geojam(version2)'s return.. and also of course today's "bloodbath" but it it??? My take is that we are going to be alright, of course some big boys want to talk down the market.. they want the Fed to cut rates on Sept 19 by 50 basis points... but it is a dangerous game.. so we the minnions watch... however lets face it, we in Asia and even Europe is going experience the best economic growth ever... whats a subprime?? perhaps the rating houses are now the issue.. but then economy wise US is now but one of the three legs supporting the world economy... europe and Asia Pacific the other two so Elfinchilde.. I know BBs in SIngapore are talking doom and gloom.. of cos they would, they take their cue from their masters in New York... but really do you seriously believe SIngapore, China, India will go under because of US sub prime woes???? I stay vested.... but of cos in counters with good fundamentals, and those with good cash flow... now is the time to buy not sell those quality stocks... |

*hugs* godpa, welcome back! sorry. juz came back today from batam, saw the msgs from some of the forumeers in fellowship and SPC. said my hello to u, easteronbay and uncle kiasu there instead of here. eastonbay, i am sure not juz lausk22 is staying sideline to see if there's any drama unfold. but let's give him credit, at the very least, he's candid about it. lausk22, there isn't any drama or show to see/unfold :) some of us have been in contact w godpa before, during and after. what happened was in the past. let's bury it, and not stir up anything ok? i am sure u being such a wise man, w yrs of life experiences, ain't foolish enough to start something that may end up badly. uncle kiasu, u muz be on the plane now to SA? so shiok... i wanna go too!!! (maybe i can, if im still shaking legs in oct and it's not to expensive and my savings can still cover?!). bunnie is back from her 5th holiday. hahaha. i love this feeling of not working. but cash running out. u got any job offers? hahaha. |

EastonBay...my pal:)...to answer your question... also to my wopengyou, Mani From:- Shakespeare's As You Like It.... All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts. I hope you will agree that this forum is but another stage for many of us who particpate here. The particpants play many parts. We can read, see, laugh, hiss and kiss. There are many scenes or dramas unfolding everyday. Of course, one of the most popular to watch among the particpatants is the unending combat between the two beasts, the bull and the bear. (Mani's pets) Besides this interesting and exciting combat that enthralls us everyday, we have many other human engagements - some civil, some subtle, some hypocritical, some comical, some satirical, some tragic, some technical, some wise, some pretentious, some childish, some filial, some magnanimous, some generous, some kind, some one kind, etc. regardless, they made up many entertaining human dramas unfolding in these pages. And that's the reason for many flock to this stage almost daily like addicts to play their role or get their entertainments or education. Don't u agree? |

curiousgal, No, you need not buy Gen Int shares to buy Gen Int R. The entitlement to Rights xd was on 15 Aug. You can buy the Gen Int R off the open market.......but, you will need to exercise this right to convert it to Gen Int shares by paying another $0.60. If you do not exercise, the Gen Int R will be worthless after the expiry date and you will have nothing. Currently Gen Int is 0.625. Gen Int R is 0.005. So, if you buy Gen Int R and convert, your cost is 0.005 + 0.60 = 0.605......you will be 0.02 in the money. But, as you are a newbie, suggest you exercise caution. Link will provide more info. http://info.sgx.com/webcoranncatth.nsf/VwAttachments/Att_F1FDFC7B5E0FF3394825730800513928/$file/GIPLC-ProjectTopaz.pdf?openelement |

curiousgal, Gen Int R is Genting International Rights. If you possess Gen Int shares, you are entitled to subscribe to its Rights issue (issue of new shares). If you do not wish to exercise your rights to subscribe, you may sell your Rights on the open market. Once you have sold the Rights, you would have transferred your entitlement to the buyer and will not be entitled to subscribe to the new shares. If you do nothing, i.e. don't sell the Rights or subscribe to the new shares, then it will expire on the stipulated date/s. |
