Temasek bought at $1.60 and they are sitting on profit. But, when they sell, they will not publicise until may be weeks later. I think present price looks like quite expensive to buy. Maybe wait a while later and monitor Temasek's action.

Olam Financial Information Profitability The financial results include proportionate share of profits of joint ventures and associates. The share of results from jointly controlled entities and associates is based on their management accounts and the compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards is tested every year towards the end of each financial year. Gross and Net Contribution We measure and track our profitability in terms of Gross Contribution (GC) and Net Contribution (NC) per ton of product supplied. GC is calculated as sale of goods, other income less cost of goods sold (raw material costs plus other direct costs, including packing costs etc.), shipping and logistics expenses, claims and commission, bank charges, net measurement of derivative instruments (other than relating to Convertible Bonds), gains or losses on foreign exchange and minority interest. For the purposes of determining Net Contribution, we deduct the net interest expense from the GC. We consider interest expense to be a variable cost and a function of our inventory holding period. For every transaction, we target a minimum net contribution per ton of product supplied based on the risks, complexities and value added services that we provide to our customers to meet their specific requirements. We are focused on enhancing these margins by providing value added services such as vendor managed inventory (VMI), organic certification, fair trade produce certification (FTP), customised grades and quality, proprietary market intelligence and risk management solutions. Sales Volumes The second key driver to our profitability is the volume of products supplied. Given our integration and end-to-end supply chain capabilities, we seek to match the supply of our products with demand from our customers. The volume of agricultural products that we supply are largely within our control and is a function of the extent of our supply chain infrastructure in the origins (producing countries) and the markets (consuming countries). Seasonality Production of agricultural products is seasonal in nature. The seasonality of the products in our portfolio depends on the location of the producing country. The harvesting season for most of the agricultural products for countries situated in the northern hemisphere generally falls between October to March. Countries in the southern hemisphere have harvesting seasons between April to September. It is also not unusual to experience both some delay as well as early start to the harvesting seasons in these countries based on actual weather patterns in that particular year. In addition to an early or delayed harvesting season, the precise timing and size of arrivals of these products can also vary based on the farmer's selling decisions, which is mainly a function of his view on prices and his inventory holding capacity. The majority of our Origins are located in the northern hemisphere. Consequently, our earnings tend to be relatively higher in the Second Half of the Financial Year (January to June) |

David Heng, Temasek's managing direcotr said n June'09 that 'We are investing in Olam because it fits well with our investment theme of supporting emerging global ch'ampions,” The former Temasek CEO ,Goodyear said last year that " the China and India will lead the “next multi-decade” increase in commodity prices, he said in September at the CLSA Investors’ Forum in Hong Kong. He compared this period to the Industrial Revolution of the mid-18th century. I am also looking at its good entry price to enter this stock since : Temasek has had investment in Olam since 2002 - 2006 and held 4.9% stakes . Now, they become 2nd largest shareholder in Olam. Looks like they are supporting 'Emerging countries', (China and India) and they believe strongly the increase in commodity price in years to come. Share price of Olam had been incresed from 1.60 till today's price. Emerging countries got more potential upside than singapore and those developed countries. Commodity looks set to rise. But - Except i am still searching for answers of my doubt - should we just buy stocks that are closely linked to emerging countires, but, listed in s'pore stock exchange or should we buy stocks that are listed in those emerging countries stock exchange itself? |

We believe Olam continues to be a good proxy for the agricultural theme, as the growth of long-term global demand outstrips supply. With a good farm-to-factory business model, sourcing and marketing presence in more than 60 countries, these trends will lead to volume growth and margin expansion opportunities. Since 2007, Olam has pursued an integration strategy that involves selectively owning assets such as midstream processing capacity in the supply chain. This allows the Group to become less of a price-taker. While its traditional trading business nets a steady 2% margin, the market could have underestimated a potential expansion to 2.8% by FY11. With a lowered gearing ratio of 1.8X following Temasek's $437.5m equity injection in June, Olam now has sufficient credit headroom to pursue an estimated current pipeline of more than 10 M&A deals. In the post credit-crisis environment, we see more opportunities for acquiring good distressed assets at attractive prices, such the recent SK Food deal. We believe Olam's growth profile for a company of its size continues to present a unique proposition. We estimate Olam's EPS (normalised) to grow at a CAGR of 27% from FY10-FY11, significantly above its peers. With this growth profile, we have pegged our target price of $3.05 to a premium 25X FY10F, which is still below its historical average of 31X PE. Kim Eng initiated coverage of Olam International (OLAM.SI) with a “buy” rating and target price of $3.05 citing strong future demand and favourable growth prospects stemming from the firm’s “farm-to-factory business model”. 0211 GMT [Dow Jones] STOCK CALL: Kim Eng Securities starts Olam (O32.SG) at Buy with S$3.05 target price, pegged at 25X FY10 P/E. Says commodities trader remains good proxy for agriculture theme as long-term global demand expected to outstrip supply. Notes, with gearing reduced following Temasek Holdings' S$437.5 million equity injection in June, Olam has sufficient credit headroom to pursue estimated current pipeline of more than 10 M&A deals. Says while Olam may seem highly leveraged based on conventional ratios, such concerns unwarranted due to liquid nature of its large inventory. Tips EPS CAGR of 27% from FY10-11. Stock off 1.2% at S$2.47; STI down 0.4%. (FKH) 0052 GMT [Dow Jones] Oil sensitive stocks, such as rigbuilders, palm oil companies and commodity plays, may get boost after crude oil futures surged to 2-month high overnight on tightening in U.S. oil supplies. Higher oil price should bode well for spending on new drilling rigs, also tends to feed through into higher palm oil, general commodity prices. Olam International Limited (the "Company") wishes to announce that the Company will release its financial results for the full year ended 30 June 2009 on Thursday, 27 August 2009 during the noon break between 12.30 p.m. to 1.00 p.m. The results will also be posted on the Company's website at www.olamonline.com. |
