after this run, i realised, main point to survive is to protect capital, even if it means to lower returns. best way is to find low co variance counters and diversify. must offset high beta with low beta counters to limit losses in a downturn. but regardless still must buy at a low price.

That is true... Whether it is a dividend-yielding stock or a volatile hi-beta one, it must be bought a a low price to be worth it. |

the last time i did that, i lost 8k out of my 10k capital. NEVER will i mau on such counters again. i wack 50 lots of addval and watch my capital dived while i was stuck in tekong. needless to say, my tekong experience was a very depressing period of my life.

thanks! but someone mentioned that REITs give good dividend but 1 bad news and it can wipe out a lot of your capital. but i do agree that the other counters are good, except that rally quite a lot liao. i scared havent take the dividend already lugi the capital if they drop.

i think emulation of a successful person will help learn faster. when i first started off in this forums, i tried to emulate BT style of buying at support and reversals. then after that i followed daniel. then i realised i had a problem cutting loss, and i saw you, the crazy 1 cent cutter. and i tried to follow your style. but too painful to follow yours. and without BT inflow of news and info, quite hard to emulate. and daniel has very good knowledge of charting which would take time to hone. but being greedy, led me to hefty losses. haha

i don't understand what you mean by 'invest or lock up' anyway, personally i feel that put money in the bank now is not quite rewarding as the interest rates are so low. therefore i decided to use the money to try get better returns. you mention that you are not comfortable with volatility. in that case, why not invest in stocks which gives out dividends regularly? some suggestions are (not listed in any order):
hope this post helps abit

Each person has his own style. You should not be following my unusual extremely tight stops. Trading is a like sparring with the market. Not every one can use the same moves successfully simply because they are different. |

ya. i went against my own decision to stay out for a cooling period and went back in to mau when i saw the global recovery. bad idea. i bought on a strong gap up hoping it go higher, but forgetting that on a gap up, people take profit. so end up entering wrong. ok la 6k out of 15k considered mau ah? think next time i will just go with 5 lots instead. at least more stomach able. i was thinking of going 10 lots for pennies and 5 lots for counters above $1.

ya thanks. i appreciate the thought. i realised today mistake was i went in just on impulse even though i did not set a cut loss position. and when it dropped by 1 cent, i emulated your style and cut. tight cut loss system. which i then realised after selling that it is normal movement and since i bought slightly above support of 40 cents, i should expect it to drop a little till 40 cents. i should have bought only at support and not above support then sell when it starts to move towards the support.

Y.E.S If one does not wish to be mauled (alive) by the stock market, the first step is not to have a mau attitude. There is nothing One needs to prove to anyone else, for accountability is His alone. Then again, u may disregard whatever is unpleasant to thou ears.

I don't know much about your personality. But I just pity you losing your hard earned money. And I have this feeling you will understand my good intention. But at the same time, I am sure you will not be satisfied with what you have lost. And since skillful players also lose money, do you think you stand a good chance? More likely, you will lose even more if you continue to play. Finally, investing or trading means the same to me.
