Dubai shock raises financial risk fears

Adarsh Sinha, from Barclays Capital, said the dramatic events of the past year meant hardened policymakers were now better prepared.


Kit Juckes, chief economist from ECU, saw little danger in the fall in markets following the news from Dubai.

"I see Dubai more as a catalyst for market positions to be taken off" on overheated stock exchanges, rather than "as a defining moment in this year's trends," he said.

"Dubai was a one-off bubble. Nowhere else has there been so much extravagant construction," Juckes added.

Agree, when SIA 1st listed, it was only a dollar & staff were given a 1 to 1 bonus once they bought it, I was one of them.

Now, today u can see how much is SIA worth, more then 10 times.

So how about Genting???

Regardless whether can hit the target of 30,000 visitors a year, the IR projects relate to thousands of living in Singapore.  I have confidence to the government and Genting.  Singapore Airline, Zoo, Night Safari and many no. 1 in our country are the good example.

From the history record, the old timers who hold only few lots of shares in Genting Berhad now all become millionaire without doing anything except hold their shares and be their investors.  Many casino in the world today the shares price are much more higher than the IPO price.  It is wise for us to be the investors in Genting Singapore than be the gambers because we will finally be the end winners

I was thinking this : the highest number of arrivals Singapore had was 10.4 million in Year 2007.  This worked out to be about 28,000 people per day.  If the Genting in Sentosa island wants 30,000 just for its theme park alone, how many arrivals Singapore need to receive each year?  May be the People's Association will get Singaporeans to make good any shortfall of the 30,000 target?

Don't forget there will be a Marina Sand.
