x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	On 22/1/08, the company buy back 1m shares from open market trading between $4.13-$4.24. Hmmm.... this should act as a good entry price for value investors taking into consideration its bought back shares are to be kept as treasury for future use. Moreover, they can buy back up to 10% of the total issues bringing it to ~158m share. Looking forward to collect more.

x 0   x 0  Alert Admin	Singapore Press Holdings Q1 net profit rises 1.3 pct SINGAPORE, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Singapore Press Holdings said on Monday its first quarter net profit rose 1.3 percent from a year ago, held back by a sharp fall in investment income and higher operating costs. SPH, which has a near monopoly on newspaper publishing in Singapore, posted a net profit of S$111.9 million in the three months ended November 30, compared with S$110.5 million a year earlier. The earnings were below the S$150 million expectations of three analysts polled by Reuters. SPH's operating revenue grew 14.7 percent to S$312.1 million, with newspapers and magazine operations contributing S$261.3 million, an increase of 8.2 percent. Revenue from property rose 70 percent to S$43.5 million, while investment income fell 67 percent to S$9.8 million. Operating costs rose 11.8 percent to S$188.5 million. Looking ahead, SPH Chief Executive Alan Chan said earnings were expected to be satisfactory for the current year, with advertising revenue to be driven by a Singapore economy growing at a moderate pace.

One of the first company to announce result 1Q.  Let's see any goodies coming out together with the release consider its defensive play and director's open market buy-in recently.
