New postal firms could be granted licenses for mail services as early as March next year, under a proposal by the industry regulator to liberalise the postal sector, the Straits Times paper said last week. "It has always been a defensive stock but now that it's losing its monopoly status, its earnings will suffer," said a trader with a regional brokerage. Shares in Singapore Post have dropped 6.1% in the year-to-date, compared with a 5.3% rise in STI.
