Actually i have a different view. If we go back in time to when Pru announced its takeover of AIA, its share price actually dropped. Big shareholders of Pru probably don't like it because lots of Pru shares will be floating in the markets ex-right. I hunched many unhappy big shareholders of Pru are just waiting for the shareholder meeting to convene next month. Talk shops and then torpedo it. If the takeover deal crater, Pru will probably just have to compensate/forfeit AIG a sum of money. But Pru's share price may rise, not necessarily fall. AIG could then separately list its asian insurance unit AIA on hongkong and singapore. If that happens, we are all in luck leow. |

Yes, they need shareholders' backing. However, you must understand why they listed in the 1st place. They wanted to raise money to Buy AIA. Everyone knows this. If the shareholders vote against this, their share price is going to drop tremendously. Beside, the are buying AIA, not some small unknown company that we don't know can make money or not. This deal will make Prudential into the no. 1 insurance company in SEA. No shareholders will vote against this. This deal will goes through smoothly.

"The AIA deal and the rights issue need 75 per cent backing at a shareholders' meeting on June 7" What would the share be if the deal not going smoothly? |

buy after the rights issue if you interested. shares would be cheaper by then because of huge dilution. 11 for 2 rights issue. | ||||
