Haha, I know of some friends who say exactly the same thing. They're buying because of quick profit and suddenly they become LT investors and they believe in the company fundamentals because the price has dropped beyond cut loss limits. They give fundamental investors like me a bad name :).

I have since the beginning maintained that all investors are punters... Whether they admit it or not, or insist to prefer to label themselves as investors, they are dealing with the stock market beast, regardless of how 'blue' their stocks are... And to me, dealing with a monster beast IS punting...

It is true that sound fundamental will eventually trigger the public's interest, but sometime this can take a long time. If the public takes 10 years to get interested in the stock, are you going to hold the stock for 10 years? I rather be there when the public beginning to notices the stock rather than holding it for 10 years waiting for someone to notice it.

That is a punter theory....not applicable to a investor.......your definition of a good stock is actually punting stock. A good stock requires its company's sound fundamental to trigger public's interest and confidence. |

A stock is consider a "Good Stock" if you can sell the stock at a higher price. No point buying a good company's stock when on one wants to pay a higher price for it. |

There are good companies... But there's no such thing as 'good stocks'... The best stocks are the ones that makes you money, be it S-chips, or bad chips, or whatever... Stocks and companies are two different things... |

Which is why trust in the company and accountants is so important, as fundamental analysis is so very dependent on honesty. I try not to go into S-Chips unless I'm in a particularly daring mood. :). Cheers.

Some professional traders do make use of the STI or DOW indices to determine entry or exit points. However, do we retail investors have the funds or the nimbleness to compete with them? My personal feel is if you're into technical analysis, go for individual companies' charts rather than such broad guidelines like the STI or DOW. You might find your gains better having gone in ahead of the BBs. Just my view. Cheers.
