Usually all assets would be sold to interested parties or by public auction to get the cash and creditors would be paid off. The cash would then finally be paid to each shareholders according to the number of shares they hold. Naturally in between there are many things to look at, for instance, the nature of the assets, whether there are preference shareholders who must be paid first, and how much cash remains for distribution for ordinary shareholders. |

Closing down a company and value of its NET Assets (that means after lessing the liabilities) are intertwined. So if we use example of a company closing down (in the case of listed company,it gets delisted) with an net assets of $10 million and its issued and paid up shares amount to 10 million shares, then assuming there are no significant expenses to meet in the process of closing down (usually legal and court fees), each share will be refunded about $1.00. The assumption is that all assets are finally realized in CASH or sold for cash, which is usually the case in a closing down saga. | ||||

It seems that the future prospect of this stock looks rather dim, don't you agree? As learningtheropes has said, quite a few shareholders are scaling down their shareholdings. In other words, the price will continue to fall. In addition, with the company base in China, and its rather weak fundamentals, I'm not sure whether the price can still rise up high. Suppose the worst case, when the company closes down. How much will it pay us approximately? Does anyone has any idea? If I'm not wrong, the net asset per share is 1.78. Does that mean it will pay us this price per share if this company closes down? I'm not familiar with all these, I'll be grateful if someone can enlighten me. Thanks! |

It seems that retail investors are buying up on this counter, but Dubai Ventures (substantial shareholder) has scaled down its shareholdings in this company again on Fri. Dubai Ventures and UBS has been consistently scaling down their holdings on this counter for the past few mths. Retail investors are unable to beat these private funds which is why the stock is spiralling down. There is no telling when these 2 companies will stop scaling down on their shareholdings. |

Haha yea true. Ekekeg, what you said seems quite interesting (: In my view, perhaps we should screen for those stocks with asset values higher than market share price instead of blue chip stocks, which are a lot more expensive. But I think we shouldn't borrow money to play all these, it's rather risky. Let's just make do with what we have now and see whether it's possible if we can earn as much as we can first, then set aside a large sum of money to invest again when the next recession comes say perhaps some time 10 years from now. Can you share with us some of the stock with asset values higher than market price that you know of? Since our capital is small, I guess we should look at those low cap stocks too right? |

Here is the story.. The 1st crash of its price is at Sept 08, when coy diversified into the real estate business in Beijing, and analysts lowered TP due to that. It fell from ard 0.355 to 0.235 in just one day..the 2nd crash is in Oct 08, where STI bottomed and everything crashed..one of its main shareholder - UBS hedge funds reduce its holdings substantially due to large withdrawals by investors..it fell to ard 0.10..after that it has stablised at 0.08 - 0.085 for quite long until this week, the GM of R&D quit the coy, and the share fell to 0.05 - 0.055 range the day after this news is released. The coy is heavily reliant on R&D, but I don't think this GM is that indispensable.. I will prob post the coy's fundamentals next week..

You said it darkweaver, what for put money if a company will close down? However if close down investors don't lose everything still ok lah. Sometimes I hope some of them can close down because their assets are higher than the market share price. For example, Firstlink now trade 2 cents with assets around 12 cents, if close down can make you rich too. Then there are many others. In fact most counters are trading below their asset value. Think we should borrow large capital and buy all these, then dismantle the assets and sell them for big profits. But then in this market where to borrow money to make money, huh? |

Yo bro amitnx, maybe you want to buy another few thousands lots to push up the price. heehee. Well, be patient for this kind of share. This stock is a sidekick for me. It will go up when china economy recover in the near future. As for now for me, still focus more on those local company like keppel corp, semb corp where their divided is much better and safer to bet on. These local stock are my main dish. If sinopipe really go up, it will be an extra bonus for me. Sinopipe can buy, but don't buy too much.
