Hi all, Some infos on bilateral business relationship between VN and Sing: - Singapore is the second biggest exporter into Vietnam, only ranked after China. Let's see, it's estimated that in 2007 the total value of imports from Singapore shall overcome usd 2,5bil while Vietnam exports around usd 1,8bil. These figures are growing at a rate of 50% annually. - Singapore is ranked 2nd on the list of the biggest foreign investors in VN. By October 2007, total foreign investment originating from Sing companies has amounted to usd 9,69 bil with 529 projects in various sectors, naming electronics production, telecommunications, distribution, financial services, real estates, software production, hardware distribution, retails ... I don't want to mention low-cost sectors as textiles, shoes, seafood, coffees, furniture, wood processing or agricultural products. - A big proportion of Vietnamese exports are transited via Singapore ports to come to US, Europe, Canada, Latin America or Africa. The fact is that many Singapore companies signed contracts with importers in those areas then make their goods produced in Vietnam before exporting. I can say that Singapore is very familiar with Vietnamese people. We are ASEAN members. SingTel is a strategic partner of Vietnam Post and Telecommunitions Corporation, one of a tourist project in Halong Bay in the South of Vietnam is copying the famous Sentosa Island in Singapore, and much more other reasons why Singapore shall be the main listing land of Vietnam companies. I am also informed that Singapore is ambitious to becoming the financial center of East Asia, competing with HKSE. There are some following reasons why Vietnamese companies must harry up its foreign listings: - Beginning 2009, a new law on personal incomes (which are now negotiated by the national assembly and soon be approved this week) shall take effect, of which the tax on incomes originated from stocks shall be implemented with a rate of 25%. So high that surely could affect negatively the stocks market, thus causing difficulties for Vietnamese companies to mobilize capital in the future. Listing on foreign stocks market shall be the best solution. - In every field, barriers to trade (tariffs reduction, elimination of non-tariffs measures) will be removed step by step up to 2010, creating favorable conditions for the entrance of foreign companies, forcing Vietnamese companies to increase its scale and avoid future M&A risks. Take the financial sector as an example, by 2010, foreign banks like HSBC, UBS or ANZ will not be limited the number of branches or subsidiaries that they want to open in whatever provinces in Vietnam, as a result, the domestic banks are afraid of being competed. Some years left from now to restructure and improve their competitiveness while capital is one of the crucial problems. - Some Vietnamese companies are competitive enough for selling their products out of Vietnam, but they don't have any fame on regional and international markets. Listing on a foreign market is a solution for improving their international client database. I can name here Trung Nguyen (a coffees production company), Hoang Anh Gia Lai (wood products), Vietnam Milk Corporation ... Let remember their name for they could be a fierce competitor of Sing companies in the near future . @thelee: I am a Vietnamese, living now in Hanoi. Nice to know you and hope to learn from you. Foreigners are permitted to trade on Vietnam stocks markets if they have an account at a vietnamese securities company. However, the government is now restricting the ownership proportion of listed companies (meaning that foreigners could not buy more than 49% of the ownership in most sectors and 30% as for banks). You could buy shares of a company too, but you have to go to Vietnam to open an account. In other words, you can?t trade from your account at a foreign bank. |

There is actually a Vietnam focused fund sold in Singapore by Lion Capital Asset Management. It is called the Lion Capital Vietnam Fund. It can be bought either in SGD or USD. This fund was listed in February 2007 at a retail price of SGD1.000 and now priced at SGD0.948 Because of very few listed companies on the Vietnam Exchange which equal small market cap, most stocks are chased up to very steep valuations. I would prefer to see virgin vietnamese companies with strong growths and branding strategies coming here for listings. Come Vietnam Come, don't wait. |

Vietnam Asset Management (VAM) ? VAM, part-owned by Dubai Investment Group, plans to list its flagship fund in Singapore or London next year to raise up to US$200m, its chairman said. The choice between the Singapore Exchange and the London Stock Exchange's Alternative Investment Market (AIM) will depend on the listing guidelines for SGX's second board, executive chairman John Lyn said. He said the firm favoured a Singapore listing because the city-state was closer to Vietnam. VAM hoped to list its Vietnam Emerging Market Fund, which has assets of US$45m, in 1H08. Mr Lyn said that the fund's larger holdings include Vietnam's largest fertiliser firm PetroVietnam Fertiliser and the country's second-largest fish exporter Hung Vuong Seafood, which will likely be listed on the main board of the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange in the first quarter of 2008. |

Hi all Singapore investors, Let me open this topic for talking about the Vietnam companies which plan to be listed on the SGX-Mainboard in the near future. As an experienced investor on the two Vietnam stocks markets in Ho Chi Minh city and Hanoi, I've get to know the hereunder named companies which, I could say, represent the most attractive sectors of an emerging country which is developing at 8,5% annually. From macroeconomic aspect, there are big changing things in Vietnam: - The country became a WTO member last November 2006, assuring its transparency in terms of economic and investment issues. - Planned GDP growth rate for the year 2008 is 8,5-9% (higher than that of 8,5% in 2007). - Foreign investment is estimated to achieve usd 12 bil this year, nearly double that figure of 2006 and surely be increased by at least 20% in the years to come. FDI shall be playing an important resource for the development of the economy. - Domestic demand is increasing remarkably due to the improvement of living standards (higher salary, confidence on the future) and market restructuring. - The Government is carrying out the revolutionary policies to transforming fiercely its economic system by creating more favorable conditions for businesses. No more restrictions and barriers to such many sectors once regarded as prohibited fields as finance, distribution, airlines, public transport, insurance ... - And there are much more interesting things that I will reveal to you later. Those, I think, are the basis for all of you (Singapore investors) to consider to buy and hold shares of Vietnam companies and expect for great profits. As I said above, in the very near future, there will be some cool companies listing on SGX-Mainboard in Singapore, for examples: SSI (Sai Gon Securities Company), STB (Sai Gon Commercial Bank), REE Corporation (Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation), VNM (Vietnam Milk Corporation) ... All these companies have net incomes increase more than 30% (and even 3,4 times) compared to same period of 2006. I saw the success of China companies which were listed on SGX-Mainboard like China Energy, Sinostar, China NewTown, China Sun ... so I could imagine good stories to come with Vietnamese companies wanting to be listed in Singapore. If any of you all have any doubles on Vietnam markets or companies to be listed in Singapore, I wish to share with you all infos on whatever Vietnamese company. In return, I hope to learn about the facts on SGX-Mainboard. |
