Long history for Asiatic. Founded in 1966 as a partnership, did you mean the Asiatic pumps located near Rangoon Road? Last time Asiatic Fire Systems used to sell water pumps to Asiatic Pumps. The present MD used to be a director there too, but not now. As far as I know, that Asiatic does not belong to Asiatic Grp, though they had some business dealings in the past. Major shareholders are the MD, his father and two brothers and his father's brother. This is a family business, shareholders include the Chairman and his two brothers, MD and his two brothers (sons of Chairman), wife of MD |

Terence, thanks for the interesting update. Investing in Asiatic must take a medium to long term approach. Now is right time to grow with the company, esp. renewable energy which is unlimited in supply. Conventional energy contributing to environmental problem will have to pay "environmental taxes" in future. Vietnam is indeed forward looking in its planning. |

Asiatic shareholders very quiet, hehe...anyway, Chairman announced that he was passing on the baton to the next generation. They being more capable, ambitious can take th company to its next level. I asked if there were any significant risks with investing in Vietnam now, the MD said that theirs was a different picture. They are into infrastructure, not manufacturing or trading. Short-term, markets move up and down, but medium to long-term, Asiatic will stand to benefit as emerging markets continue with developments. With regards to the 99-year contract in Cambodia, MD said the land (PPSEZ), being 365 ha, had 99 years term, so they just took the full 99 years. Power plants can last for about 20 years so should be ok. Then I casually talked to Chairman about fire-protection, cos my uncle is also in this trade, and they happened to know each other, so Chairman said fire protection will remain stable. But will not expand further, as it is very easy to copy, and might result in intense competition. Power generation was the MD's idea anyway. Anyway, all resolutions passed. We have a new lead independent director now, the previous one has retired. Chairman is now non-exec. director, acting as an advisor to the board. The food was ok, haha...had carrot cake, fried kuay teow, sandwich and soon kueh...delicious :) |

Terence, weather the storm quite well. In the annual report, it says profits are not affected by fuel price increase as it will be absorbed by the buyer of the power. The company is well-placed for long term's growth. |

Half year results are out. NEt profit jump 95%. Revenue from energy division jump 7 fold due to contributions from 2 power plants. The third one is under construction. When ready, it would benefit Asiatic's bottomline further. Half year EPS 0.6 cents, NAV 9.9 cents Vested at 0.135 |

Contra players could have been out by now....company subscripe 2nd trance of $loan from DBZ...When converted to shares and DBZ not sell out yet, could see their holding crossing >5% and become SSH...A real GEM in the energy play.... |

The minimum conversion price of 0.22 is pre-rights issue, if you adjust it for rights, it would be 0.08. |

i guess it is positive as DBZM is an investment coy looking for good deal. but i could not understand the conversion price as it did not go that low. I thought it would be min. $0.22 per share. http://masnet.mas.gov.sg/opera/sdrprosp.nsf/36858ca0bf0879fb48256b4500285a82/4FF851B7F699FA9048257329002C6BFD/$File/Asiatic%20Bond%20OIS_31%20July%202007_Lodgment%20Copy%20_3_.pdf |

GM Tan definately see great opportunity in the energy sector in the emerging mkt in cambodia and other countries...Now that son has gain more control of the company, meaning to say that the founder allow his son to bring the company to another new high with vision. Looking at the company mkt float of around 169 million shares and "A big business" ahead wif revenue staring to kickin, this may surprise many later...Today may face selling pressure from yesterday rise but see accumulation at 16.5cts moving in....Hope it will be like another 'OKP' style.....Big business, small mkt float & high share price.... |
