Analysis from UOBKH: It reported that its revenue rose 8.4% yoy for 3Q06 but net profit fell 24.9% yoy. This came on the back of declining margins as raw material prices rose, as well as an unfavourable product mix. The gardening and lawn equipment segment grew about 45% during the period. However, revenue from the agriculture and forestry segment was flat. Geographically, sales in China grew 15% yoy while that for all other regions experienced a robust 17% yoy growth. As sales of gardening and lawn equipment rose yoy, gross margin fell to 26.3% from 35.9% in 3Q05. Gardening and lawn equipment accounted for 41% of total revenue in the quarter compared with the 32% in 3Q05 as gardening and lawn equipment has lower margins than agriculture and forestry equipment. Overseas sales will continue to rise as the company maintains its competitive edge over its competitors. New product launches will offset part of the adverse effect on gross margin caused by an unfavourable product mix. Besides, we are still concerned about the risks of Powerplus' new product launches. Weather conditions in China is another key point since the domestic market will still be the key factor that will determine its profit in the remaining part of 2006. We have cut our net profit forecast from Rmb81.7m to Rmb66.5m for FY06 and lowered our DCF-based target price to $0.21 on poor business visibility. Maintain hold with entry price at $0.17. |

It received an indicative order for 116,000 units of power tool products, at a recent trade fair for the garden and leisure market in Germany. The products will be delivered to its customers, who are mainly from Europe, over the next 12 months, starting from next month. This is a step in the right direction which will reduce its reliance on the domestic sector and improve its income. |

It said on it terminated talks with a foreign private equity firm that could have led to the takeover of the Singapore-listed firm. "The board wishes to announce that the controlling shareholders have informed the company that the preliminary discussions with the private equity firm has been terminated with a note of appreciation," Zhongguo Powerplus Industries said in a statement. |

This year's typhonn season started in May, about a month earlier than usual, with the storms fiercer and more frequent than usual due partly to the impact of global warming. Severe drought in South-western China that began in mid-May has left wells and rivers dry. |

Typhoon Saomai, the strongest storm to strike China in 50 years, weakened to a tropical depression but drenched the country's southeast after killing at least 104 people, blacking out cities and wrecking more than 50,000 houses. Another 190 people were missing after Saomai, whose winds peaked at 170 mph, battered areas where more than 1.6 million people were evacuated before it hit. This is the 8th tropical storm in China's unusally strong typhoon season. Zhongguo Powerplus will be badly hit this year as it derives 85% of its revenue from China. Continue to avoid. |

Net profit fell 12% yoy. Margins declined due to rising raw material prices and an unfavourable product mix. Domestic sales continued to improve, in line with the recovery in China's agriculture sector in 2006. In 1H06, domestic sales rose 25% yoy and accounted for 78% of total sales (vs 76% in FY05). Domestic sales will continue to drive Powerplus' earnings in 2H06. Prices of raw materials rose. Plastic pellets, zinc/aluminium bars and outsourced parts accounted for 19%, 9% and 62% respectively of cost of goods sold in FY05. Plastics and aluminium prices have risen by 11% and 16% respectively ytd. Limited pricing power has made it impossible for Powerplus to pass on all the increased costs to its customers. The unfavourable product mix, with more lower-margin brush cutters and lesser higher-margin as hedge trimmer and tea harvester, also eroded Powerplus' margin. The weather condition in China is another key factor since the domestic market is still the key determinant of its profit in 2H06. UOBKH has a target price of $0.31. |

The TA signals are mixed. Volume is relatively high but not exceptionally so. RSI looks like its downtrending. Don't think it will go up... I think it has most likely passed its peak. |
